Scotch. If I can't afford at least Glenlivet, I don't buy anything. (With the result being that I haven't bought scotch since 2010, and then I was in Wisconsin where they practically pay you to buy booze)Cheese has to be Sargento or better.

^^^that isnt really "not skimping" b/c i dont know that there is an off-brand version of siracha, although you could easily make your own
4/10/2012 10:37:52 PM
having a favorite brand isn't exactly skimping, is it?
4/10/2012 10:39:53 PM
it is if there are generic brands that plenty of people enjoy and your favorite is significantly more expensivefor example i love cholula but i could get some shit like franks or tabasco alot cheapernow obv each has their own flavor profile but they are all more similar to each other than siracha is to any hot sauce you can buy in most grocery stores[Edited on April 10, 2012 at 10:44 PM. Reason : ^and either way you are basically agreeing with me that siracha isnt skimping]you could also, say, prefer pop tarts but by the generic brand anyway b/c you are "skimping"[Edited on April 10, 2012 at 10:45 PM. 4/10/2012 10:44:07 PM
I think having a favorite brand would be something you refuse to skimp on, if that brand signifies greater quality than the norm. (i.e. certain brand cheeses, or neese's sausage as my example). But not if it's the same as the rest of the brands.

I don't buy generic yogurt/cottage cheese/sour cream. I don't know what it is but the store brands are fucking nasty. Generic cheese and milk are usually fine.Back when I ate cereal I wouldn't buy generic frosted mini wheats. They would always fuck up the texture of the cereal.
4/11/2012 10:15:26 AM
Agreed on TP, trash bags, aluminum foil, Oreos, Q-tipsThe only things I can think to add are cling wrap and stuffing mix. I haven't eaten it in like 3 years, but I love Stove Top cornbread stuffing. Store brand is some kind of travesty.

What is "worth it" about paleo? Hubs wants to do it, and I don't necessarily see the point if it's not to lose weight.
4/11/2012 10:49:23 AM
Please don't say hubs. It makes my eyes bleed.

I hate hubby worse. What would you all prefer I refer to my husband as, because husband is stiff and formal? Boy? Other half? Spouse?
4/11/2012 11:48:59 AM
I have more energy and just generally feel better when eating paleo. Was not trying to lose weight and got rid of a couple lbs anyway.
4/11/2012 12:04:36 PM
Call him your hubba bubba. That is affectionate and not lame at all.
4/11/2012 12:32:02 PM
^^^husband is fine. it's not stiff or formal, it's just the word for what he is. be a grown up & use it. he probably has a given name too...you could use that.
4/11/2012 1:23:48 PM
4/11/2012 1:27:01 PM
I actually use hubs, not as short for husband, even though it is, but because it's short for the pet name I call him (habibi). I won't use his name on a message board, and y'all wouldn't know who the hell I was referring to anyways. So, I'll "be a grownup" and call him whatever comes out when I type. I'm not worried about what other people want me to call him...^I love that. I will totally call him Mr. Beethoven. Much better than DH (Dear Husband), that really drives me up the wall.[Edited on April 11, 2012 at 1:28 PM. Reason : He joked last night and said he wanted to register on here as Mozart.]

i did paleo for 5 months last year and went into auschwitz mode. was eating a lot but got unfat with a quickness.but i felt like ass most of the time.also, for people saying aluminum foil, if you buy the generic heavy duty foil, it's good enough for 99% of your applications. and i use foil a lot.
4/11/2012 1:35:21 PM
Did you eat lots of healthy fats? avocados, coconut oil, and sweet potatoes keep me from losing too much weight. I'm celiac and have been gluten free for years, so it wasn't a huge stretch.
4/11/2012 1:59:58 PM
