I still have no idea how people can see gun violence statistics comparing the US to every other country in the modern world and say "nope, nothing at all"and in no way is that me advocating a ban on guns. I just think it's (beyond) time to step back and assess the problem

^^^ I agree. And I don't know the answer. Look at most of Europe (yes, even Switzerland) and at least have a dialogue. The only answer I know isn't correct is, "this."[Edited on August 24, 2012 at 3:57 PM. Reason : X]

If we want to get rid of drug addiction and the families it breaks up and the people who die from overdosing, we need to make all drugs illegal

If we do a bad job of fixing one problem, we definitely should not try to fix any more problems.

using the same method that miserably failed on the first problem

Compare this map of gun ownershiphttp://www.edutube.org/interactive/guns-100-residentsTo this map of homicide ratesHomicide rate has more to do with organized crime and drug trafficking than gun ownership.[Edited on August 24, 2012 at 4:03 PM. Reason : ]

Not only that, they're all issued a weapon which they keep at home for a very long time while they're not in active duty.^ Look at Canada, sitting up there all smug.[Edited on August 24, 2012 at 4:03 PM. Reason : *]

No one is saying guns should be illegal and guns are not illegal in NYC. Also drugs should be legal but regulated. Letting people have guns or drugs whenever they want is a bad idea!

Re: Switzerland -- how do they rate against countries with extreme gun laws like Australia in terms of gun violence? What are the rates of other violent crime and how did the laws effect them. What can we learn from each, if any?IMO its not gun control or lack thereof but rather a deep cultural influence that no one fully grasps.[Edited on August 24, 2012 at 4:09 PM. ^ exactlyalthough I do disagree by thinking that it is somewhat of a gun control issue[Edited on August 24, 2012 at 4:11 PM. Reason : but I guess that since we can't talk about it we'll never know]

So a guy shoots someone three times, and then the cops shoot him plus 9 bystanders. And everyone here is talking about gun control instead of the real issue, which is that it's OK that the COPS SHOT NINE INNOCENT PEOPLE.

There were probably additional methods that failed the drug problem, though, other than making them illegal.

cops shooting innocent people is cool with me. I mean if cops can't go onto private property and shoot homeowners before asking questions, then what good are they?http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/21/jennifer-orey-shot-by-deputy-_n_1819271.html

the trained law enforcement officers of the NYPD only hit 9 innocent people with gunfire...despite the subject being what, 10 or 15 feet away?dont worry guys, the cops are well trained in handling firearms, you'll be safea citizen with a concealed permit would probably have some regard for innocent bystanders since they wouldnt get paid vacation if they hit someone like the cops do]

No they should have guns, but only if they are able to shoot the person they're aiming at, and not NINE completely different people.
