^ Yes, he's my favorite Martian.

I was thrilled by Elon saying in Earth's billions of yrs history, for the first time the window was opened to colonize another planet. The window period is the key here I think.

https://www.teslarati.com/spacex-starship-mars-landing-2024-elon-musk/

Quote :
"Four years after Elon Musk revealed “aspirational” plans to launch Starships to Mars in 2022, the SpaceX CEO now believes that 2024 is a more accurate target.

For SpaceX, that two-year ‘delay’ is more impressive than anything given that the company practically restarted Starship development from scratch a year after Musk set the 2022 target. In late 2018, after more than two years of work developing a Starship (then BFR) built out of carbon fiber composites, the CEO revealed that the company was going to completely redesign the rocket to use steel for all major structures."

Very impressive

China launched a rover on mars. It's certainly like a new space race already, part of the new Cold War between the two biggest economies. And communist China will probably lose the war like Soviet Union and break into pieces....

^^ They are certainly making progress. China is still keeping a high speed as a developing country. But communism is greatly preventing their growth and makes the society with no middle class. Rich people often migrate to the West and poor people beg for scraps. China need to give up autocracy and dictatorship so that they can entirely embrace the capitalism without CCP.

Why can't China accept ANY external criticism or policy disagreement? If they want to be number 1, they better get ready to be hated by all and come up with a better playbook than turning into the world's biggest crybaby bitch / Lucy stealing the football.

They act like total infants anytime someone "accidentally" says something about Taiwan being a country. The whole situation is silly and is going to blow up someday. I don't enjoy watching people kowtow to them when they accidentally anger the dragon. Just stick with what you said and take your lumps. It isn't wrong.

I'm pretty interested about the space force actually but lack of physics and universe knowledge to do it. Maybe try on the Clubhouse first. Elon Musk is BS of physics at UPenn and PhD of material science at Stanford. He's humongous.

I hate that they are labeled as astronauts, but technically the definition of an astronaut is someone who has been beyond the threshold of space. It definitely demeans the hard work of actual trained astronauts though. These guys should be labeled as space tourists and nothing more.

Part of me wishes that Elon would show them up and ACTUALLY go into orbit on a Falcon 9 or even better on a Starship when its completed. That would really trump the other two guys major accomplishments. But I don't think he cares as much about being the center of attention live like that. Just my guess but yea this whole Branson/Bezos nothing burger has been so pointless.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-57950149

Quote :
"Jeff Bezos and Sir Richard Branson not yet astronauts, US says

In a move that pours cold water on the dreams of a few billionaire space explorers, the US has tightened its definition of the word "astronaut".

New Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules say astronaut hopefuls must be part of the flight crew and make contributions to space flight safety.

That means Jeff Bezos and Sir Richard Branson may not yet be astronauts in the eyes of the US government.

These are the first changes since the FAA wings programme began in 2004.

The Commercial Astronaut Wings programme updates were announced on Tuesday - the same day that Amazon's Mr Bezos flew aboard a Blue Origin rocket to the edge of space.

To qualify as commercial astronauts, space-goers must travel 50 miles (80km) above the Earth's surface, which both Mr Bezos and Mr Branson accomplished.

But altitude aside, the agency says would-be astronauts must have also "demonstrated activities during flight that were essential to public safety, or contributed to human space flight safety".

What exactly counts as such is determined by FAA officials.

In a statement, the FAA said that these changes brought the wings scheme more in line with its role to protect public safety during commercial space flights.

On 11 July, Sir Richard flew on-board Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo to the edge of space as a test before allowing customers aboard next year.

Mr Bezos and the three other crew members who flew on Blue Origin's spacecraft may have less claim to the coveted title. Ahead of the launch, Blue Origin CEO Bob Smith said that "there's really nothing for a crew member to do" on the autonomous vehicle.

Those wishing for commercial wings need to be nominated for them as well. An FAA spokesperson told CNN they are not currently reviewing any submissions.

There are two other ways to earn astronaut wings in the US - through the military or Nasa.

The wings spotted on Mr Bezos and Sir Richard following their flights were custom-made pins by their own companies.

However, a glimmer of hope remains for Sir Richard, Mr Bezos and any future stargazers hoping to be recognised as astronauts.

The new order notes that honorary awards can be given based on merit - at the discretion of the FAA's associate administrator.

Astronaut wings were first awarded to astronauts Alan Shepard Jr and Virgil Grissom in the early 1960s for their participation in the Mercury Seven programme."

The FAA changed the definition of astronaut the day Bezos launched, so he probably doesn’t qualify! (According to the FAA anyway)

^^No I mean in a live sense where HE is live on TV and his life is on the line. I understand that he LOVES the attention of the world but I think he likes it when he can best control the narrative. So recorded pieces, tweeting where he can think about his responses, stuff like that works best for him. Some of the live demos he does where he is the center of attention don't always work out great for him. Think the Rogan live interview where he smoked weed (who cares honestly), the Cybertruck demo where the glass broke, things like that I don't think he likes that as much because he doesn't have as much control. Hence why I'm not sure he'd think its worth as much to go up to space on a Falcon 9 yet. Maybe once Starship gets in a flight ready and safe state he will.

Ahem, vs. me and real NASA. Ole preggo Kelly would be in even worse shape since Earth’s atmosphere is ~1000x thicker than Mars.

I have a bunch of friends and coworkers down at KSC already. The stack rolled out of the VAB last night. Lots of pictures from up close. I’ll post some when I get a chance.
