Hey Wraith, are worried about Starship HLS at all? The timeline for Artemis 3 seems very aggressive and HLS is dependent on multiple launches and in-orbit refueling of a vessel that hasn't launched yet. 8/30/2022 11:53:26 AM |

Okay so the whole 2025 date for Artemis 3 is never gonna happen. That was a ridiculous goal set in the Trump administration without any real input from NASA in the first place. We don't have the funding to make that happen. That is regardless of what is going on with Starship HLS.
The other thing going on there is just generally SpaceX's overall culture. They work very well when it is just them. If we are saying "Hey deliver our astronauts to the ISS on your own vehicles", they get that done. HLS requires a lot of interfaces though. A lot of complexities requiring multiple organizations to work together for a successful integrated product. That is the part that worries me with them. They have very lofty and ambitious schedules. And I've reviewed some of their technical documents before for their NASA support stuff -- they are written like they were authored by a freshman year student writing his first lab report for Physics I. Kind of weird that they would deliver technical details to their customer in that state.8/30/2022 10:11:35 PM |

Starship in general just seems like Musk's ego without check. I obviously want it to succeed, but man, getting falcon heavy human-rated seems like it would have been better 8/30/2022 10:22:39 PM |

So far, all the telemetry that we have received and processed has indicated a completely nominal launch. Which is actually very rare. Normally there is SOMETHING that goes wrong, it is just usually something minor or the fault management systems on the flight computer are able to fix it in microseconds before it actually has any impacts. Orion is currently on its way to the moon. 11/17/2022 1:03:25 PM |
