I'm torn on whether resignation is the right move in these situations. Wouldn't forcing them to fire you for insubordination be a stronger statement? If you resign, you make it easy for them, and they are only too happy to replace you with a more compliant yes-man.

There’s been at least a dozen resignations I think over this so far. Just like the halligan case, the yes men seem to be wildly incompetent, also puts resource constraints on everything else. Also frees them up to speak and testify. Congress needs to do their job though— hold hearings, get independent investigations going, etc.
