yeah 22% for women is NOWHERE near average, unless by average you mean "that's how women should be".according to this picture, at 22% a woman has the beginnings of ab definition, and that's such a tiny percentage of the population.but also remember, that 2 people with very different appearances can have the same percent body fat, or conversely, 2 people with the same percent body fat can look very different, depending on body type. for example:

^^Well, that actually is Kim Kardashian in the 30% picture. LOL

Women have approximately 9% more essential body fat than men.So a man getting down to the bare minimum 3-4% is roughly equivalent to a women around to their bare minimum of 12% or so.A woman at 22% is very lean. Beyond that they are basically looking at trying to lose "stubborn" body fat which is very difficult to do without weight training and very careful attention to diet. Fat loss is significantly harder for women than men anyway, and getting back below 22-25% just won't happen for 95% of women without commitment and women are terrible at committing themselves to things. At 22% a guy is flat out overweight and he can lose fat just by not eating terribly. Abs start to show at 15% and that is about the point where fat loss becomes more difficult for men. To get below 10% they'll need weight lifting and extreme attention diet. They'll also have all kinds of hormonal issues that can cause erectile dysfunction, fatigue, strength loss, etc. It's not really recommended for most people. It's fairly obvious to me at least that by those pictures 22-25% is pretty ideal
9/24/2013 7:32:33 AM
^^Actually, it's only in the last century or so that the feminine ideal has shifted towards a lean, athletic body type. The fatties haven't won and it isn't that we don't know what normal is anymore. Through out much of history there has been a preference for plush, curvaceous women. Just take a tour through art and you will see that feminine beauty has historically been quite different from our current ideals that run either towards model thin or sleek athleticism.
9/24/2013 8:32:10 AM
even the curvy or rubenesque body types of various periods in the past weren't as fat as the average fatty today
9/24/2013 8:37:31 AM
I'll take anyone from the 25% - 35% area Alex.

It might indicate success in the fact that you can afford to buy food. Women also didn't play sports and exercise back in the day. So yes...rich women were mostly plump and/or fat. It doesn't surprise me. And that no one painted pictures of poor, skinny girls.Oh...and yes, curves in the right places are feminine...everyone loves nice tits and ass. Good job Sherlock.[Edited on September 24, 2013 at 8:53 AM. Reason : .]

Kim K would be an example of one of those rubenesque idealsand she is skinnier than the average american todaythe fatties have won
9/24/2013 8:52:59 AM
Google Image Rubenesque paintings. Most of what will come up will be in the 35-45 range.

Even more important:
9/24/2013 9:12:26 AM
^^the paintings weren't of the ideal, the ideal was kim k level which is still fat but skinnier than the average

uh oh, we got some victims up in here. the fatties have won. See the second pic in that post of mine and read what I wrote.A woman with 30% could be a skinnyish woman with a protruding belly, or could be a kardashian with fat uniformly distributed and especially deposited on the bottom and boobs.
9/24/2013 9:36:28 AM
the 30% picture above (kim kardashian) is fat and would havebeen considered even fatter before "society today". hell, your grandma wore drop waist dresses and wanted to be a no-boobed stick (flapper ideal)this idea that ideals have changed recently is irrelevant and incorrect.

^^^ Not in Africa... Have you see the women there? Aside from the fact that men in general fat women there, in some cultures they even send women to fat camps to fatten them up for a few months before marriage.[Edited on September 24, 2013 at 10:05 AM. Reason : ]

It's not rocket surgery. As our country gets rapidly and dramatically fatter, the average (be it mean or median) moves, and the scale slides.People who would have been considered fat 20, 30, 40 years ago are considered normal. People who would have been viewed as absolute whales back then are commonplace now.If you look at models and sex symbols in society, I don't know that there has been a dramatic shift, but if you are talking about what most people view as attractive, the upper limit has moved dramatically (and the lower limit has probably crept up some).[Edited on September 24, 2013 at 10:14 AM. And for Bettie Page (who was famous because of her erotic and fetish photography and nude work, not because she was an ideal of attractiveness) had the following measurements:

In my opinion, thin--and even perhaps skinny--is actually the egalitarian ideal. Many women are not born with ideal proportions, but we can all be thin. So if thin = beautiful, then everybody has a shot at being "beautiful," and in the United States especially, we value the notion that you can be anything you want to be. In some countries, they're a little more fatalistic about matters, like intelligence, class, beauty...you're born with these things or not, and you just accept it. But here we like to believe that you can be/do anything with hard work. If the ideal is Kim Kardashian, then a good 90% of us are fucked; but if the ideal is thin, then we can all be pretty!!! Yay! American dream for everybody![Edited on September 24, 2013 at 10:50 AM. Reason : they're]
9/24/2013 10:28:41 AM
I'm not sure I would look very good if I were thin. I have wide set hips and a huge rib cage. I already have a disproportionately small waist compared to the rest of my body. I can't imagine what I would look like skinny. I would guess I'm somewhere between 30-35% with most of that lying in my ass and thighs.

Yeah asking dtownral for his opinion on women (or acknowledging that he's somehow an expert) is a bit like taking your pants to Buffalo Bill to be hemmed.I think ill pass on this "pro."
9/24/2013 10:45:26 AM
I think we should all stop caring about what other people think is the ideal woman. Every single guy has his own personal taste and so instead of arguing about it on the internet why not go find one you think is hot and bang and/or marry her.
