It was a realignment in 2024 and in 2026. Just because there was a blue wave now doesn't mean people want to go back to 2020 and self-flagellate on social media about how oppressed and woke they are.

This is an indictment of Trump not that everyone has blue hair.

Here's a list of accounts that predicted this... on X:

Quote :
"
Matt Stoller — 164,589 followers — 2025-09-23: “Dems will almost certainly win in the midterms and in 2028.”[34]
Michael Tracey — 353,799 — 2026-03-25: Republicans were “on pace for a Big League midterms blowout.”[35]
Geiger Capital — 372,962 — 2026-04-04: “Midterms are going to be an absolute bloodbath for the Republicans.”[36]
Glenn Greenwald — 2,568,065 — 2026-04-06: “The GOP is going to lose the midterms,” with the House and possibly the Senate going Democratic.[37]
Crémieux — 344,371 — 2026-08-31: “The markets are now predicting a blue wave for both chambers of Congress.”[38]
Unusual Whales — 5,384,382 — 2026-09-27: reported a 64% probability of a Democratic sweep, rising steadily since July.[39]
Polymarket — 2,045,686 — 2026-10-30: put the probability of a Democratic sweep at 71%.[40]
Sean Davis — 640,041 — 2026-10-30: shared “Democrats Poised for Largest Generic Ballot Win Since Obama’s 2008 Blowout.”[41]

Silver — 3,065,000 — 2026-09-19: Democrats were up 7.8 points on the generic ballot and 8.6 among likely voters: “That is deeply into wave territory.”[43]
Bill Kristol — 1,069,791 — 2026-09-29: wrote that November’s “blue wave could be even bigger than many people expect.”[44]
Leo Varadkar — 436,292 — 2026-09-29: said the numbers pointed to a “consequential ‘blue wave’ mid-term election” capable of flipping safe red seats.[45]
The Officer Tatum — 947,534 — 2026-09-30: a conservative account warned, “Democrats are FAVORED To SWEEP Republicans in the Midterms,” citing a 62% sweep probability.[46]
Rachel Bitecofer — 205,320 — 2026-10-28: her final forecast said Republican defections would flip both the House and Senate and drive large Democratic gains.[47]
The Cook Political Report — 226,319 — 2026-10-31: said Democrats were “on the precipice of another anti-Trump wave.”[48]
Decision Desk HQ — 472,262 — 2026-11-01: gave Democrats an 83% chance of flipping the House and projected 241 Democratic seats.[49]
G. Elliott Morris — 126,638 — 2026-11-01: said early-voting forecasts suggested a blue wave and that Democrats could exceed their 2018 turnout advantage.[50]
Ian Bremmer — 1,482,782 — 2026-11-02: predicted “a big blue wave,” 20-plus House seats, and 51–53 Senate seats—and said his risk was being too cautious.[51]
New York Magazine — 1,862,976 — 2026-11-02: called a Democratic midterm wave “all but inevitable,” said a Democratic House was expected, and said Democrats were favored for the Senate.[52]

lolol. bluesky types have misinterpreted every election result since 2016 and I guess seem determined to do it this time too.

this. midterm results were about trump plain and simple. Democrats are NOT suddenly beloved. it was ONLY by focusing on the affordability concerns that Trump exacerbated did Dems get voted back in. If they waste everybody's time over the next two years on political retribution and other nonsense we'll be right back with a 2024 map next cycle

I don't think voters are going to have a lot of patience this time around if democrats squander this opportunity. They must immediately start making things tangibly better for the average person.

not surprised to see such delusional takes. all good though. let the partisans take their fake victory lap. i'll have my eye on the overwhelmingly moderate democrats who got elected and see if they follow through on the "shared prosperity > culture war battles" lessons that serious, reasonable people have learned from the last few years

missed this

it’s not “political retribution”. it’s enforcing the law. actions have consequences. all of the lawlessness of the last two years doesn’t get a free pass because they were in power.

it's too early to identify any particular paths that they will take, but the vibes are there. the vague bloodthirsty threats have been made. hopefully saner heads in the party will prevail in the weeks/months/years ahead and Dems will focus on things that got them elected and actually matter to make the lives of Americans better

and honestly, i think for the most part they will. in a lot of ways, 24 and 26 election results turned out to be best case scenario. if 24 had been a tighter margin of victory, we probably would have seen a lot more chaos, and trump would have resorted to more dangerous methods to ensure his victory was recognized. the fact that he won so easily probably made him feel vindicated and since a lot of what drives trump in the first place is his ego, he was probably less emotionally driven and therefore more reasonable in his approach to the last 2 years (i'm not saying he WAS reasonable, i'm just saying there's more and there's less. it could have been a LOT worse).

and in the same way, the democrats can feel vindicated now. if the election was closer and we had to deal with claims of election interference or other post-election day chaos, it would have made the political environment a lot more dangerous. the dems have full control of congress with healthy margins (so the fringes don't make things worse with their own unreasonable demands like the tea party and progressive caucus have been able to do in the past when there was tighter margins of party control) and so they'll be able to set an agenda and justify it with a big electoral mandate. they just need to put it to good use for the people and not squander the moment on things that won't lead to more Americans wanting to vote for them again in 2 years

We read it. We’re disputing its inference, not the election result. Democrats winning proves voters rejected Trump and the Republicans governing with him. It does not by itself prove that the entire Bluesky worldview was vindicated, that 2024 involved no realignment, or that X users were universally blindsided. The blue wave was predicted all over X. You keep collapsing narrower distinctions into broader positions we did not take.

Treasonous and criminal behaviors should be punished. It’s not political retribution, it’s ensuring that there are consequences for actions contrary to the functioning of our society.

Having a lame congress while criminal and treasonous behavior is committed should not and does not exempt that behavior from being punished.

I do not believe all behavior will or should be pursued criminally. However impeachment, removal and barring from future office would be acceptable for many of the characters.

Emoulements violations would be a good area IMO for criminal treason charges.

Trump will never be held accountable. It's just never going to happen. He'll die first.

His kids (and especially his son-in-law,) on the other hand, should be put in irons.

I use machines to collect and present information. Occasionally to search for opposing points to my ideas. I never have the machine think or generate the idea, though sometimes I wish you'd do that that.

maybe you need to have it help you out, because I don’t know how many other ways to say that Tuesday night was proof that the “vibe shift” that was alleged in 2024 wasn’t a thing

nobody is claiming that there’s been a “vibe shift” in the other direction and it’s very funny that you keep talking about blue hair progressives

I definitely have no fucking idea what you mean by vibes. Vibes are ephemeral and non-durable. I do not think a vibe is something permanent. Do you?

Quote :
"it’s very funny that you keep talking about blue hair progressives"

The article *you* posted had this in the title:
Quote :
"Bluesky was right all along and will accept your apology any time
Many savvy pundits on X framed the 2024 election as a massive political realignment and Bluesky as a “copium” den for progressives in a bubble. Boy, were they wrong."

I never claimed that what happened in 2024 was permanent. I provided evidence in my own feed, and outside my feed, that X was rampant with people predicting a democratic win for almost a year. The vibe on conservative twitter markedly changed from 100% support and enthusiasm to reluctant hope as soon as Trump bombed Iran the first time. Over time the vibe became almost 100% negative towards Trump 2 (with exception of Shapiro and Benny Johnson types, but those are shills).

Quote :
"" I'm morbidly fascinated by how so many political, cultural, and corporate entities treated the last two years as if this were how it would be forever, and they were no longer accountable to anyone.""

I did not say that or claim that, nor did Q. People like Yarvin have been saying since Trump took office in 2025 that there would be hell to pay and anyone associated with Trump 2 would be nuked from orbit after the midterms.

From the article:
Quote :
"They were right that anti-trans ads would have little or no impact on the 2026 election, and that their impact on the previous election had been vastly overstated."

That's because the vibes are different! The ad works in 2024 it doesn't work in 2026.

i've been trying to make sense of that fastcompany article. there's SO many things wrong with it. but since it seems "the “vibe shift” that was alleged in 2024 wasn’t a thing" is tgl's main takeaway, i'll address that part of it

the article says "Many savvy pundits on X framed the 2024 election as a massive political realignment" and "the narrative that 2024 represented a rejection of “wokeness” and a political realignment toward Trump." these are its claims. we'll put aside the "rejection of wokeness" part for now and just focus on the "2024 realignment toward Trump" claims. but where's the supporting evidence in the article that people (on X or otherwise) were driving that narrative? it links this article https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/14/opinion/identity-groups-politics.html but provides no other evidence and then goes back to spending the rest of a 1000 word article trying to smear X and pat bluesky on the back. and in the NYT article, the only part supporting the "realignment" narrative is the "Democrats lost because everyone except for whites moved in the direction of Donald Trump" which is just factually true according to the numbers. it doesn't say those shifts represented an ideological agreement with trump. it doesn't say that republicans would hold those demographic shifts forever. it doesn't say that democrats couldn't earn back those votes. what it does say is that inflation and cost of living drove most of the shifts, and that identity politics don't work.

[Edited on November 6, 2026 at 1:36 PM. Reason : tldr tgl's central claim isn't supported by the article and the 1 link it provided to do that work for it doesn't make that claim either]

and this is what gets to the heart of this whole thing

the right (wrongly) came to the conclusion that it was the anti-trans ads that won them the election in 2024, when in actuality it was the fact that the conditions were ripe for a right wing candidate to win, which happened in elections throughout the world

instead of realizing that, they thought they could let their bigotry flags fly, and decided it would work for them again in 2026. 2 years of that shit and the electorate clearly said, “this shit is weird and we don’t care for bigotry”

because we have a history of your priors, it’s clear that you’re wishcasting for the anti-trans ads to have worked/been a winning issue, when they weren’t the reason they won in 2024, and they made the exact wrong bet in 2026.

for a fun example of the vibe shift, you didn’t start using the t-slur until 2025.

Don't think anyone cared. They cared gas was expensive and all the opportunity for regular people was still gone. In 2020 the argument was, "THINK ABOUT THIS OTHER GROUP" when people whined about opportunity and cost of living. In 2026 it was "the ballroom, but Iran nuclear, eat another protein besides beef" and people rightly told them to fuck off.

MY PRIORS. What are my priors? I didn't want it to work I didn't even vote red this time. I am even cheering for some retribution on Trumps inner circle (just not the little people).

I have been best man at more gay weddings than you know gay people, and been to more trans functions than you ever have by the time you finished college. *STILL* I get why people have trouble with some of it (but the whole issue is fake and gay and used to distract MAGA and blue hairs to fight about it instead of hold elites accountable for their bullshit)
