in a league where Geno Smith, Derek Carr, Blake Bortles, Josh McCown, Brian Hoyer, and Matt Cassel start, its a goddamn shame Glennon can't go to a team with a coach that would actually appreciate him

^glennon seems to get a lot of shit (at least from the nfl people i follow on twitter, it seems) which i've found kinda odd considering how he hasn't exactly been terrible when playing. obviously i'm biased and am rooting for him to succeed. and i'm not saying he's great - or even that good. but he's hardly as bad as folks seem to make him out to be

I think most of the knock on Glennon is limited upside. Glennon has been a bit up-and-down in his limited playing time, but it's really hard to tell what he can do given being on one of the worst teams in the league the last 2 years with QB-rotation and no running game. He had average stats on a bad team, hard to really figure out if he could potentially be a poor man's Matt Ryan or just another above-average back-up like Derek Anderson/Colt McCoy/etc.

Also the problem with a team trying to get Glennon, is that the Buccs have no reason to trade him. He's #2 on their depth chart behind Winston and is an insurance policy for them. He is extremely cheap and a serviceable back-up for them. No team is going to come in offering a 2nd round pick for Glennon, so the Buccs will hold onto him until his rookie contract is up and then I'm sure he'll end up on some team searching for a QB so he can try and win a starting gig.

Gruden gave him some sloppy head and a fair description of the TOB/RW situation.

Predict where Glennon ends up next year. You gotta think he goes somewhere with a murky qb situation to try to become a starter and get paid the big bucks. Here's most likely destinations

Cleveland- save 7.5 cutting griffin and 4.5 cutting McCown.

San Fran - Save $14m cutting kaep and Gabbert is fa. Chip Kelly is on a short leash and needs to win quick

Jets - clearly some bad blood between Fitz and nyj and they don't want a long term deal

Chi - could save $14m walking away from cutler

Mia - could save $10m walking away from tannehill, but double that if they hold on until 201i

Denver- if sieman and lynch struggles they won't hesitate to go after a more consistent option given their super bowl defense . Possibly could even trade for him midseason

Then obviously some jobs could come open with injuries to older guys like palmer, brees, Romo, etc...

Bottom line is I think Glennon starts a few games next year somewhere. I think it's pretty clear he's as good as several starters like osweiler who got huge offers... he will either get a $12- $16m offer to start or he will take $5- $8 to go somewhere to compete for the starting job. I don't see him signing a chase Daniel type backup deal for $4m

I'm gonna guess he ends up on the jets. I think Fitz struggles and I know they can't wit to dump geno. . I think hackenberg sucks and they have a tight salary cap and need a budget starter.

I think he gets like 4 yrs, $44m with $16m guarantee . This assumes he sits bench all year. If he comes in and plays well he could easily surpass what osweiler got. If he signs a backup job somewhere as an heir apparent to Carson palmer, romo, etc I bet he still gets like 4/ $24 but i don't see that happening I think a lot of teams will be interested in him. There are a lot of qbs I think teams are ready to give up on and a lot of guys I think will struggle this year.

^ how much time has he been getting in the preseason? How does he look? If he's playing a lot, maybe theyre advertising him to trade. I dont see why they keep him if he has value now that famous jameis is established.

Because having a competent backup QB is almost a necessity these days if you have any post season plans at least.

yeah, unless TB could get maybe a 1st rounder they really have little incentive to trade him.

Money doesnt buy happiness. But it ensures you're still fucking hot girls when you get older

I'm pretty surprised they didn't trade Glennon either but maybe no one was willing to give up a 3rd rounder... his numbers are pretty decent in the preseason, nothing super impressive. But he's got plenty of real game experience that suggests he's a viable starter.

If i was houston I would given up 3rd rounder for him and saved $18m on osweiler. I just don't understand people paying $18m for guys like cutler, tannehill, osweiler, etc... like pay a reasonable guy 5m instead and spend the 13m on a premier wr for him to throw to instead.

It makes plenty of sense to spend big money on cam, rodgers, brees, etc but it makes no sense to spend a ton on below avg qb. You're much, much better off playing a cheap draft pick like kaep, wilson, Glennon etc on their rookie deals

Lots of teams looking for a QB (Jets/Steelers for sure) why does TB hold on to him when they are clearly committed to Jameis and this is the last year of Mike's deal?

Because TB is a horribly run franchise. Seriously. They could flip Glennon for at least a 2nd rounder, but hold on to him while Jameis is running around throwing INTs like Harrison Beck. I guess they want that insurance in case crab boy gets hurt, but they suck either way so they should build for the future.

1) no one is willing to give them a first or second round pick, otherwise he would be gone. They aren't going to take anything less than that for him because they'll most likely get a third round compensatory pick for him when he leaves in free agency.

2) he is a solid, proven backup with starting experience that is costing them relatively nothing. If they traded him, anyone they signed to replace him would probably be both worse and more expensive. TB is being a well run franchise by not trading him for less than he's worth.

3) this has been discussed in this thread already like ten times.

Looked good in 4th quarter after Winston injury. 10/11 75 yards 1 TD 0 INTs.

In a league where Brock Osweiler gets a huge deal over half a season, Glennon can't get a starting gig with his track record?

I sat in Carter-Finley with people who said Glennon would never see a snap in the NFL.

Even in this thread people predicted failure and made jokes. Fuck all of you. I hope he kills it.

I think having Russell for that one extra year was probably only worth +1 win on that 2011 season. There were enough other issues on that team that Russ wasn't going to fix. And who knows how many more losses we have in the 2012 when Glennon isn't there cause he transferred.

I hate it has become so messy with Russ but alot of that is on him and not TOB. Best thing that can happen to us is for Glennon to have a great year and show that it wasn't an unreasonable decision on our part in the national narrative.
