Whatever you thought about the invulnerability of the United States...

Whatever you thought about the way war is waged...

...it's all in doubt.

I went to class tonight. It was the first time I had left the television since 9:15 this morning. I know it sounds weird, but I really expected things to look different outside, because things feel like they're different.

as you will have undoubtedly heard by now, just shy of 60
years after pearl harbor a new suprise attack was carried
out against the U.S. I sincerely hope none our friends and
family were casualties in this attack...

as i was watching the two world trade centers collapsing,
and all of manhattan covered in smoke, the camera zoomed out
>from across the harbor. in full view, with this incredible
devastation as a backdrop, the statue of liberty stood
untouched. it reminded me of the principles and ideals that
have made this country great, and greater still following
this dark day. it is not the manhattan skyline that is the
symbol of american greatness, but our determination and will
as a people.

i guess i just felt so powerless, i had to write
something...

An email I got from a friend

I will concur wholeheartedly. During my walk today, taken specifically to escape the news to which I, too, had been glued since 9:15 this morning, I truly felt as though I was walking through places I'd never been. My world has been completely disrupted by this and my perceptions of safety, security and freedom are forever altered.

I think I would have actually felt better if things did look different.
