sweet, good find! i've been wondering when they were going to add us.
The pictures look like they're from the early fall. The leaves are still green, but there is a new building beside my office that shows up that has only been there a couple months

yeah, i understand the point.
my point is, i seriously doubt there are would-be house robbers sitting around "casing out" houses to rob on Google Maps. but whatever, maybe i just don't have the mind of a criminal

If anything the places where you can actually look up property value would be much worse than street view is.

yeah, i agree. just FUD.
lots of people like to pretend like before Google they were just safe and anonymous. Yes, Google has made lots of personal information more easily accessible, but they're not actually creating or publishing anything new. All that data was already there for someone who was motivated enough to find it. The benefits to the public in general from the information Google and others now make it easy to find I think far outweighs the slight chance that information could be used maliciously.

yeah i mean like just now to find a nice house to look at on street view i still had to use realtor.com and just searched for anything over $1M... it gives an address. obviously it'd be easy to find this house with or without google... seeing if say, it's not near anything else, is something useful with this (for a thief) but in all reality, it isn't going to matter. if somebody wants to steal something theyre going to, period

im just saying that yeah, while all of this information was available before google came along, it has never been nearly as EASY to get it. EASY = dumb people can do it = more percentage of criminals can do it...see where im going with this?

have there been any studies on rates of home invasions before and after google streetview mapped out a city? i mean up until now they were only doing the very populated, dense cities, where privacy wasn't much of a concern to begin with. i think smaller cities are a lot more vulnerable to malicious use of streetview. again, just my opinion

they just released a "Google Maps Static API", where you can create images of Google Maps without using any scripting, kind of like their Charts API.

you can use it when you want to embed a map of something/somewhere in a webpage, but you can't or don't want to use scripting, or you just want it to be a static image of a map instead of an interactive map.

summary - http://googlemapsapi.blogspot.com/2008/02/google-maps-without-scripting.html
documentation - http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/staticmaps/

example

for some reason you can only use Map view or Mobile view.... no satellite

^ that is extremely handy. i have been wanting to use a small map view like that to put the location of a property on real estate websites, but i decided not to because it took so much time to load the maps application. good find!

its probably been mentioned but the Flight Simulator part of Google Earth v4.2 is pretty neat...i hooked a little USB gamepad up and mapped some of the controls and flew into Charlotte Douglas from JFK in an F-16...only crashed about 8 times before I 'successfully' landed near the parking deck

Google Apps Newsletter... i really like the addition of Email Archive Uploading...

Quote :
"Get new features sooner

Want to be closer to the cutting edge of Google's technology? If so, you
can opt-in to enable new features for your users before they're made
available to all Google Apps domains. To learn more, check out the Google
Apps Help Center:
http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?answer=82691

Create surveys with Google Docs

A common use case for Google Docs is to create a spreadsheet and circulate
the link to collect data. For instance, you might create a spreadsheet to
collect your colleagues' preferred dates and topics for a guest speaker.
Instead of giving everyone access to your spreadsheet, you can now create a
form in your spreadsheet and send it out to anyone with an email address
(not just Google Apps users). Read more at the Google Docs Blog post:
http://googledocs.blogspot.com/2008/02/stop-sharing-spreadsheets-start.html

Email Uploaders

Is the bulk of your users' email confined to their desktops? The new Email
Uploader unchains users from their PCs and lets them transfer email
archives to online storage. It's a client utility that uploads emails
stored in popular Windows PC clients to Google Apps Email (available to
Premier, Education, and Partner Edition users), and is an Apache 2.0
licensed open source project. For more information, please visit our blog
post at
http://googledataapis.blogspot.com/2008/02/upload-your-old-email-with-google-email.html
http://code.google.com/p/google-email-uploader/

More Docs printing options

We understand that the key to printing documents is proper formatting, and
we've added PDF-based printing to Google Docs. Go to File -> Print, select
how many slides you'd like on a page (up to 12), and preview your choice.
You'll see exactly what the printed version will look like in your preview
window.

New security and compliance add-on packages

Google Message Security and Compliance services, powered by Postini, are
already part of the Google Apps Premier Edition but are now available for
add-on to other editions. These services enable central administrative
control to set messaging policies, archive messages and perform
e-discovery. To learn more, check out the new security webpage:
http://www.google.com/a/security"

are you referring to the Google Page Creator feature in Groups?
I think Sites is more focused on creating stand-alone websites or intranet sites, not necessarily just group discussions. And I think the features are more geared towards the CMS market.

Since it apparently only runs right now in Google Apps for your Domain, I assume it is mostly pushed towards easily creating and maintaining intranet sites for small businesses

The funny thing is, that service is provided by GrandCentral, which is already a free service. So anyone, including a homeless person could sign up for free assuming they could get a beta invite(and 5 minutes of computer access to sign up).

So basically they just gave away free beta invites to homeless people.
