Hah, probably! Don't really plan to do a lot of HPDEs though (in near future). Mostly just racing with a BMW Lemons team.

Going to miami homestead for the first time this weekend to test some cars. Hopefully I love it enough to order it for this season. New rules for p1

Let me know your thoughts on the track.

I'm headed to Barber first weekend of February for the Lemons race. Will be 1 of 4 drivers for a Crown Victoria. Will be a vast departure from the well prepped E36 I've been driving for over a year. Unfortunately that car crashed at Road Atlanta last month. (I wasn't driving at the time). Car is repairable, but our race was over early. I'm not sure how "pretty" the owner cares about the car WRT fixing it, however the big hang up is waiting for a frame shop to have time to fix it (frame damage up front).

We want to race it at Road America this summer so hopefully it'll be fully fixed by that point.

There are always seats available, just have to check the FB groups or Lemons message forum! But I do not know of any specific ones at this time.

Messy race weekend, lol.

Saturday was sunny and 65, which was nice. We didn't take a competitive approach to the race (really was just for fun) so my aim/goal was really just to compartmentalize my stints as my "race". Was definitely some rubbing is racing on Saturday though. While I was behind the wheel I was bumped moderately from behind by an 80s Thunderbird. Then a bit later I was pushing an inside line against an E46 through a compound turn and he decided to tighten his line into me and I had no exit so he hit me, spun in front and bounced off me and slid inward and hit the wall. You could say it was my fault b/c I didn't have a 1/2 car length on him, but him pinching the line there was literally the slowest/worst driving move he could do, so I wasn't expecting that. Oh well, no hard feelings. After my shift was over the next driver was T-boned by an Integra that slid off track and overcorrected, then hooked across track and smashed in both our driver's side doors. Of course when an Integra hits a Crown Vic the outcome is predictable. Integra was out of the race while the Crown Vic kept on trucking like nothing happened.

We started Saturday in 113th place (out of 133) and finished in 59th.

Sunday was a mess. Temperature ranged from 42-44° and 2 inches of rain fell (even some sleet at times). I was our second, and final driver. Nobody wanted to go out after me lol. Given the increased fuel efficiency from driving in the rain (i.e. slower) I was able to stretch it out for a good long while. But conditions were BAD. If more than 3 cars were ahead during a high speed section, visibility was literally zero. Hydroplanning wasn't a rarity, it was the norm, several times a lap. Oil from other race cars made visibility through the windshield comical. During 2-3 full throttle upshifts our car's rear end would snap out, every time. Oh and we didn't have ABS either. Thankfully sliding a long wheel base car like a Crown Vic isn't terribly difficult.

But after 3 1/2 hours I came into the pits and just parked the car. Partially because I was tired, partially because we hadn't adjusted the belts properly so my back was aching quite badly, and partially because I didn't want to ball up someone else's car just for the heck of it. We were 37th at that point. Race ended 70 minutes later during which time we dropped to 45th.

I had a ball, and loved being able to get several hours additional experience racing in the rain. Racing in the rain feels like a talent accelerator to me, compared to dry racing.

Next race will be CMP. Don't know what I'll be driving there (owner is selling the Crown Vic) and my "usual" ride, the BMW, hasn't been repaired yet.

Hey gang, what's new?

Im farting around doing time trials with COMSCC up here in the northeast. Also some lemons from time to time.

I'm just finishing up a new build, an LFX swapped RX8, for this season. Should be fun. Our lemons car is an E30.

the LFX is a seriously slept on engine. they're finally making big cams for it and its putting out v8 numbers and revving much higher. are you building it or just keeping it stock?

Not bad at all. Those and the 3.7 DOHC V6 from Ford seem to be overlooked and are cheap to buy. Won't make huge power but for those engine swapping into lightweight track cars, great option.

I have a Lemons race coming up in 3 weeks, down at CMP. BMW I usually race is still being repaired so I'll be running in a V6 Mustang (with the aforementioned 3.7, as it were). Should be fun.

The BMW should be ready for Sebring in May, but I probably won't be participating in that one. Maybe Road America in September...

Awesome.

My motor is bone stock, $800 from a Malibu. I just had it tuned up and dyno'ed and it put down 300whp with a crazy flat torque curve.

It actually makes more power than I thought and sorta screws up my classing plans. I might detune it a bit to stay in my current lower class. We also have a power-weight class using GLTC rules, id have to detune down to like 240whp, though, and that doesn't seem fun.

Does that graph show that at 5250 rpm your car is optimized or something?

Every engine's dyno will show hp/torque overlap at 5250 rpm. For any vehicle with an internal combustion engine that can reach that high of an engine speed.

Do you have a full cage? could add more safety as ballast to get your hp:weight in spec. You could also do a complete flat bottom in all heavy, cheap plywood. Then the weight is as low as you can get and also generates downforce

Race over the weekend at CMP ended up being a lot of fun. I was driving a new car, V6 Mustang (with the 300hp DOHC 3.7), and it was more beastly and lively to drive than expected. Out of 86 entrants I was able to put up the 7th fastest lap of the weekend. Sunday it rained all day and I quickly learned that massive oversteer was the quickest way through most turns . I discovered hills, dips and rises that I never knew existed at CMP, all via the rear end's behavior. Only 3 cars managed to pass me in the rain, and 2 of those finished the race #1 & 2.

A few minor technical issues (oddly, and thankfully, not related to the car) held us back from placing well but it was still a massively fun time. The car was bulletproof, not bad for a 200k mile flood damaged former rental car
