Quote :
"Urban Meyer is stepping down as coach of the Florida football team, athletics director Jeremy Foley announced Saturday afternoon in a release.

"I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program," Meyer said in statement. "I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family.

"After consulting with my family, Dr. Machen, Jeremy Foley and my doctors, I believe it is in my best interest to step aside and focus on my health and family.

"I'm proud to be a part of the Gainesville community and the Gator Nation and I plan to remain in Gainesville and involved with the University of Florida.

"I'm very appreciative for the opportunity I've had to be a part of a tremendous institution - from Dr. Machen to Jeremy Foley and the entire administrative staff at UF. I'm also very thankful for the chance to work with some of the best assistants in college football and coach some of the best college football players and watch them grow both on and off the field as people. I will cherish the relationships with them the most."

Meyer will coach his last game for Florida against Cincinnati on Jan. 1 at the Sugar Bowl. "

ESPN just said he will step down but remain in Gainesville and help out some at U of F. General consensus is spend more time with family and seems either him or his family has a big health concern.

Shut up JB... this isn't "Meyer is a pussy." There is obviously a good reason... And it's because he's afraid of some redneck program in the hills.

[Edited on December 26, 2009 at 7:16 PM. Reason : hook in the water. will it get a bite?]

a redneck program in the hills that has more all time wins, more national championships and neither is really close? fuck you and your complete lack of college football knowledge.

Like I said, if its a real medical thing then sure, go ahead, but if its some shit like "fatigue" then hes a pussy. Easiest job in the world is recruiting in Florida, fucker probably leaves the State 3 times a year

I don't see what UT's all-time record has to do with its geography or redneckness

NC State basketball is an elite program. One of only 10 or 11 to have two titles. One of only 8 to have titles under more than one coach.

because obviously he meant redneck program as a bad program, even though 95% of UT's players arent from anywhere near Knoxville, so even if the assumption of it being redneck is correct he has no point (and Gainesville is just as redneck as Knoxville if not more, he would know that if he had ever been to both)... and no one said a word about NC State bball

Historically we're great... that's all.

UT was a great football program once. I can admit to that.

^ haha, I've only drove through Knoxville. Been to Gainesville more than a few times, though I don't like UF one bit.

It sounded to me like his family was pissed that he spent every waking moment with the florida football program based on a quote said during the UNC game (something like, "we're finally getting our dad back").
