normally "heartbreaker", "since i've been loving you", or "fool in the rain", but lately:

"what is and what should never be".

I've always liked Achilles Last Stand and Ten Years Gone. Though I still like the more popular ones, Kashmir and Stairway To Heaven. They're popular for a reason.

This is my kind of thread!

My favorite Led Zeppelin song is a lot of Led Zeppelin songs! Let me tell you about them!

"Heartbreaker" is just a good, solid rock song. Pretty much any shitty band could cover that at a house show, and it'd be good times. Short and sweet, too. I've been listening to it at work a lot these past few weeks.

"Since I've Been Loving You" is a bit too melancholy for me. Good song, but it's not one I'm gonna queue up unless I'm in a queer mood.

"Fool in the Rain" is a really fun song, and I listen to it very often, but it's kinda precious. Dude is waiting for his girl, she don't show, he talks shit in his heart, then he realizes he's waiting in the wrong place. Okay. I mean, it's a clever song, but that bridge overstays its welcome. I like singing along to this one, though! Especially the Spanish cover by Mana. I wonder if there's a good country cover. Seems like it'd be a good fit.

"What Is and What Should Never Be" is a great example of Zep's lyrical touch and mix of whimsy with vague menace. There are some other songs below that fit that mold.

Yes! "Achilles Last Stand" opens with that driving-ass, overdubbed guitar, and that bass line comes in like your on fuckin' horseback. That song gets into a wheedly, high-flying place. It's very lyrical as well: Albion remains, sleeping now to rise again...!

I'm not as much a fan of "Ten Years Gone," but I can appreciate it. It just doesn't grab me like the former.

"Kashmir" is one of the moodiest, creepiest songs I've ever heard. It gives me dark thoughts about the Yellow King, the Silver Gate, the Plateau of Leng—some terrific Dreamland shit! The treacherous, mystical Orient! Lovecraftian as all get-out: To sit with elders of a gentle race/this world has seldom seen....

And those violins on the bridge, tell me you can't see those slender violinists in a line, upright and proper in their tuxedos; uniform in appearance, eyeless masks draped over unguessed grotesqueness!

Listening to this right now. The opening guitar's hypnotic, and Plant is warning you the whole time during his monologue that shit's about to get real, then BAM! The jangle, the drums! And the breakdown's got this percussive-ass riff that makes me think Green Day must have ripped it off, which is probably a dumb thing to say, but that's what it evokes. It's a really good song to listen to in stereo: arpeggios on the left, Spanish flourishes on the right.

This is kind of a throwaway "longing for a lady" song. I know Zep's got a few, but...eh. It doesn't grab me. Got a lazy country twang that's not too bad.

DYNAMITE song. Dedicated this one to my wife. Love the use of the automobile as a sexual metaphor. Also, in my head, I picture some old-ass Steamboat Willie-style cartoon character just taking big-ass steps across the landscape in time with the music.

Pretty sexy song, downright smoldering. Super repetitive in that good, hypnotic way. Like to listen to this one when it's hot outside.

This and (I can't believe no one has mentioned it) "Houses of the Holy" are awesome examples of Zep's "I want you, and that is dangerous for you" vibe. I know "The Ocean" is about, like, their love for the audience or whatever, but that song is unhinged. I find myself humming this riff all the time.

"Houses of the Holy," by the way, is a dirty and scary song. Something breaks in Plant's mind, and you can hear it right around the 3:13 mark (during one of the "you know" lines). It's like the floor gives way and the earth moves around him, and he is the Devil.

Another classic. Dig singing along to this one, too. Love the goofy Lord of the Rings references.

"D'yer Mak'er" is a fun tune! All reggae and shit, but with that really chunky riff during the chorus.

Clearly, I can't pick a favorite. I'm pretty shocked that no one has volunteered "Rock and Roll," "Black Dog," or "Whole Lotta Love."

Let me give a shout-out to "Tangerine," which is a sweet and dreamy little song. It was in Almost Famous!

i really can't think of a led zeppelin song i don't love...

my ultimate favorites are:
hey, hey what can i do
d'yer mak'er
rock and roll

every so slightly in second:
with the other more common songs such as black dog, dancing dogs, whole lotta love, kashmir, stairway to heaven, dazed and confused, ramble on, etc.

possibly the most consistently awesome and timeless band of all time

holy crap, i just realized I haven't listened to zeppelin in years. I mean really listened to them, not just the random song that pops up on shuffle. this needs to be rectified immediately.

I think FroshKiller pretty much summed up my thoughts on them.

I like The Rain Song a lot

if I listened to Zeppelin more actively recently, I would think of the other ones I used to like a lot

unfortunately some zeppelin reminds me of some high school stuff that I don't particularly want to remember

but for the most part I love them

and Celebration Day if I'm not mistaken, isn't that the second track on III?

I really like the guitar in that song. It's the epitome of everything I like about blues rock guitar. Words are a bit melancholy, but the guitar is perfect.

Cannot decide betwen these:

Fool in the Rain
Going to California
The Immigrant Song
D'yer Maker

Honorable Mention: Over The Hills and Far Away

I also have a secret obsession with "The Lemon Song"

BIGcementpon

Stairway is popular because people who don't like 'hard rock' or most of Zep's stuff can listen to that song. If you've heard lots of Zeppelin, it's hard to put it in thier top 10...my opinion only, maybe. I wouldn't put it in thier top....20-30
