Got a doe opening day for gun season. Processed out 5lb of burger so far and made honey teriyaki stir fry with fried rice/vegs from some of the hams. Even the wife liked it.I set up a trail cam last week and am anxious to see what might have crossed its path.Going on a 4 day expedition to Northampton County starting Sunday and am pumped. Goals for this year:-Load up the freezer-Veinson pastrami: http://makedelicioushappen.blogspot.com/2010/11/venison-pastrami-reuben.html-Italian sausages and bratwurst

Haven't had a chance to check this yet, but off the top of your head (and maybe cite a source, too) can anyone tell me if bow hunting is allowed on Sundays in NC or not? I don't believe it is, but my brother disagrees.

11/5/2011 1:40:53 AM
nvm...forgot to read...nice nontypical 14 pointer
11/5/2011 1:42:10 AM
most folks would call that a 9 point with some trash[Edited on November 5, 2011 at 6:11 PM. Reason : and it's more of a double main beam than a drop tine]

http://yfrog.com/khij0hvjWill be flamed for this because people on here think this guy is my idol but look at this monster... And I'm sure this was at a ranch where they grow them so it's kinda cheating[Edited on November 5, 2011 at 9:19 PM. Reason : .]

11/5/2011 9:26:19 PM
^^calm down. you sure are sensitive about that thing. i wasn't trying to talk shit about it. racks don't mean shit to me b/c no matter how long i boil em, i just can't get those antlers to cook up worth a damn.
11/5/2011 10:13:18 PM
not sensitive about shit. just sick of trolls everywhere you go on the intarwebs.
11/5/2011 10:56:38 PM

Had a hunt on the Currituck sound this weekend. Not much flying but managed to shoot a nice black duck. First time I have been down to that area. Crazy how shallow the sound was after two days of winds from the north.
11/20/2011 10:02:33 PM
my bros buck this year. killed in bertie co.
11/20/2011 10:04:52 PM
I sighted in my Mosin Nagant the other day. Got a long eye relief scope on it mounted further down the barrel.
11/20/2011 10:30:45 PM
With any luck, I'll be sitting in a tree stand in Virginia with my Tikka .270 across my lap in approximately 47 hours
11/21/2011 6:18:18 AM
Shoulda let him walk but it was hard to turn down considering hes only the second buck I have seen this year.
11/23/2011 12:06:34 PM
Got my first black bear last Monday. 341 lbs. Not big, but still nice for my first ever.
11/23/2011 4:05:34 PM
11/23/2011 4:11:44 PM
Got a decent size doe Wednesday evening in VA with my .270. Shot placement was a bit low and I destroyed pretty much an entire shoulder though
11/27/2011 12:50:57 PM
Going to walk around with the .22 and Muzzleloader. Deer, squirrels, coyotes, and coons beware.
11/30/2011 3:10:23 PM
got a couple more squirrels this afternoon
12/2/2011 6:05:17 PM
i walked outside this morning and some buzzards were eating on some squirrel guts i had thrown in the woods last night. of course my dog was going nuts over them and those bastards were standing their ground. ran in the house and grabbed the shotgun. i keep it loaded with 00 buckshot for home defense so i just went with it. dropped 1 buzzard that was on the ground and the rest scattered.

anyone know a game processor in the raleigh/cary/durham area? I have some ham and shoulder scraps I don't care to grill. Any of you make sausage or hamburger?
12/4/2011 10:52:53 AM
i see a sign for one up on 96 near zebulon iircbut if it's just scraps, i doubt it'll make financial sense to take it there. i would kill another, field dress it, take out the sweet meat to grill that night or the next day, take it to a processor and get them to grind everything but the backstraps.
12/4/2011 10:59:53 AM
^What's the sweet meat that you can grill that night?I typically dress/skin and quarter the deer and sit it all on ice for a few days to bleed it out. Then I butcher it up into steaks/whatever.
12/4/2011 11:55:12 AM
12/4/2011 12:00:21 PM
^^the sweet meat is on the inside wall of the gut cavity back there in the kidney area. it's two pieces about the size of your hand, one on each side of the spine. i think it is technically the tenderloin and the "backstrap" is the loin. sweet meat's very tender. grill it rare or just brown it in a pan with a little oil and whatever herbs/spices you want. hell, a lot of the hardcore guys out west who camp/hunt will just grill it on a stick over a campfire. it'd be hard to fuck up.[Edited on December 4, 2011 at 12:35 PM. Reason : adsf]
12/4/2011 12:09:09 PM
^^ Yes. It is a felony. ^ Great job admitting it on a public forum. http://www.fws.gov/le/HuntFish/waterfowl_baiting.htm

here's some more info on sweet meat:http://www.best-venison.com/faq/index.php/article/printer/what-cut-of-meat-is-called-the-sweet-meat-in-a-deer[Edited on December 4, 2011 at 1:25 PM. Reason : ad]

I havent had time to hunt yet this season, but maybe I'll get to go out after I get back from my honeymoon. I'll definitely have to make sure I keep the sweet meat seperated and compare it.
12/4/2011 3:20:49 PM
just saw a bunch of the four wheeler skinning videos.man, that is a LOT easier.
12/4/2011 3:26:45 PM
it's good if you killed the deer in the evening, field dressed it, and left it hanging overnight to skin it. if the deer's still warm, i find it's easy enough to skin by hand that it's not worth the trouble of hooking everything up.
12/4/2011 3:33:16 PM
my bro is slayin' em this year.
12/15/2011 6:34:35 PM
