I gave it a 2nd chance, and was just as disappointed. Veins? Really? I can understand some fat but veins? And not even one - it was a whole network of them in my BBQ.

I don't understand how this place keeps getting on those "Best BBQ of NC" lists all the time.

^It is eastern style and I agree 190%.

I was there last Saturday. They're coleslaw is different and I like it a lot. My BBQ wasn't too bad.

i used to live right down the street from that place. it's good, and it's cheap. my only complaint would be how long it takes them to make a damn sandwich at the walk-up window.

i also prefer eastern to western.

Allen and Sons is awesome. The one outside of Hillsborough is way better than the one in Pittsboro.

For BBQ, it isn't cheap. That place is more than The Pit downtown.

And yes, I realize pigs have veins, but I don't expect them in my bbq. And we're not just talking a small piece of one, I can handle that. This was a network of them, branching off in several directions.

Anyone that thinks Allen and Sons is cheap probably hasn't been there in awhile. I was surprised how expensive it has become.

It is because they are one of the few BBQ joints in NC that still use actual hickory to cook the bbq. That hickory isn't cheap.

Whole hog means just that. Cooked veins are edible. Don't be a prude.

i like making my own bbq in my smoker... I make sure to use wood and give it the nice smokey flavor that makes it different than a lot of bbq joints around here... but not too much to overpower it.

Gotta respect that he didn't feel they weren't going to carry on the name properly.

No not really. With a newborn it is unwise to go out and eat right now.

The main issue is that you are eating eastern style bbq which tends to be a steaming pile of hog dump. Drive west for actual BBQ.

My only memory of that place is the tiny antique toilets and having to cup my balls with one hand while having diarrhea so that they wouldn’t get dunked.

Well, there are articles out there that describe major concerns with infants sleeping in carseats outside of their base. But it isn't where to place them in the restaurant, it is not wanting to go to the ER in the middle of the night because your 1 month old has RSV.

And I really enjoy western BBQ as well. I think both are great. If you discriminate against one kind, then you're not a true lover of the Q.

That's fine but they shouldn't call the eastern style "BBQ", they should just call it soggy pork.

Live in Chapel Hill and only went once. Food was decent but didn't like the place. Think it was cash only and the bathroom looked like somebody had died in it years ago and it had never been cleaned. Fuck that place. Haven't been to the one near Pittsboro but might have to hit that one up sometime soon.

I've been a few times. First time, I thought it was some of the best BBQ I've had in a restaurant in NC. It had plenty of crispy skin, etc. that I feel like you see less and less nowadays.

Next couple of times, I was really disappointed with the food and the customer service was absolutely terrible.
