how do you get richer?
3/6/2012 10:57:31 AM
I would save approximately $12.5k and turn a profit of $4380 from rental income (although I'd write off most of that income in the form of upgrades/repairs.)I would love to have my home paid for.[Edited on March 6, 2012 at 10:59 AM. Reason : s]

Rich is an absolute. One can be either rich or not rich, but there aren't degrees of richness.

Oprah is rich, Bill Gates is wealthy. If Bill Gates woke up tomorrow with Oprah's money, he'd jump out a fuckin' window and slit his throat on the way down saying, "I can't even put gas in my plane!"
3/6/2012 11:06:19 AM
Stop saying 'richer'. That is not a word.Use 'wealthier' or 'more rich'
3/6/2012 11:08:13 AM
That's why you should slap anyone who says do not pay extra on your mortgage and invest the difference in stocks and shit.

Why do home value increase over time while everything else depreciates with age?In other words, as a home is used and worn, the price increases. This is not natural and it's killing America.A home that is 20 years old should not be worth more than the house when it was brand new.Can you imagine buying a 20 year old car for a higher price than when it was brand new? When things don't add up like that, someone is taking advantage of you. (government and banks)

Yes, it is used every day. By uneducated people who use it incorrectly.

About $20K. But I'm still renting out a room, so takes is to a little over $12K. Spend about $5,500 on the office rent.Kind of "eek!" at spending $25K/yr just for a place to live and work.

^^^^My second thought after that was, "I must be doing alright if I can afford that and still live a semi-comfortable life."I don't mind the living cost because my house is nice and I love it. As for the office...it's actually dirt cheap for my location and size. Plus all my utilities are included. So my value is good...but it's still a big lump sum (to me) when you see it like that.[Edited on March 6, 2012 at 11:29 AM. Reason : .]

Just looking at straight mortgage, we'd save about $13,000. But obviously that isn't a realistic answer because we'd have to get into comparing the fact that I get to write off the interest and taxes now versus the fact that I would still pay for HOI and taxes if my house was paid off.

How many hours a week do you work?
60ish
3/6/2012 11:43:11 AM
Yea, one of my wife's degrees is in education and she has her license. Here in SC, the teachers get paid terribly though. She got a random job at my company instead (that technically doesn't even need a degree, but her degrees helped her start out higher) and makes as much as she would in this school district if she had 15+ years of experience teaching. She pretty much decided to keep working here instead of being on the waiting list for an opening at a school close to us.[Edited on March 6, 2012 at 11:48 AM. Reason : ]

At my current rent, if I could pocket the money instead, I would have $13,800. I am paying too much rent. Need to find a cheaper place when I relocate this summer.
