Try lady smith black mambazo. They are a band that out of south africa that specialized in gumboot music. Won the national award for best band year after year. Also, try K'naan. He lives in canada now but is from Somalia and most of his lyrics have to do with the continent. Follow any of the suggestions from youtubes of those and you wont go far wrong. If you have netflix there is a pretty neat documentary on Fela on there.
