I have a new invention proposal that's probably already been done, but maybe you can find it for me.Looking at this picture:and looking around me, I came to the conclusion that this piece of shit architecture doesn't stand a chance against a storm like that.So my invention proposal is a photobooth sized steel room, that is lockable from the inside and ranges in the $3,999 - $5,999 zoneSimple Box shape and thickness as thishttp://www.ableammo.com/catalog/images/winchester_safes/desc_HOMESERIES12.jpgEquipped with an oxygen tank, and a flat panel tv with games and access to cameras placed on each side to see outside the box, and padding on the wallsTherefore, if the building ever collapses, or a tornado picks you up and throws you, a hurricane rattles your house, or a tsunami is imminent, you can run to your box to protect yourself for 1-24 hours until you're out of danger

Congratulations, you just invented the 1950's refrigerator.
4/14/2012 4:43:13 PM
They already sell concrete storm shelters that you bury in the back yard or under the house. They are bigger than photo booths and about the price you quoted.
4/14/2012 4:45:52 PM
How many of these will fit in there
4/14/2012 4:47:47 PM
4/14/2012 4:50:24 PM
Can do that too
4/14/2012 4:51:40 PM
link me to a supplier?
4/14/2012 4:52:13 PM
I saw the thread titleThen the userThen I laughed
4/14/2012 5:03:49 PM
OH SHIT A TWISTER
4/14/2012 5:05:51 PM
If the tornado picks up your safety box and throws it with you in it, aren't you still pretty much going to die?
4/14/2012 5:06:17 PM
^No, why would you think that?
4/14/2012 5:12:45 PM
F=ma
4/14/2012 5:15:24 PM
Ok I'm sitting in a refrigerator 100 feet in the air and then it falls straight down, seems like this could be bad for meNot to mention when the flat panel tv screen explodes on impact and gets glass all in my eyes
4/14/2012 5:15:36 PM
There's padding, okay?
4/14/2012 5:18:06 PM
hahaha
4/14/2012 5:21:28 PM
I can't see a safe of that size flying too high, i just see it tumbling along the ground. There is a difference between a truck flying 100 feet into the air and a solid safe flying 100 feet into the air. Right? I don't know the physics of it, but I would assume it's based on principals of lift.

Why do I feed the animals?Stick to tossin' pizzas homeboy.
4/14/2012 5:49:18 PM
A room where people can go when they panic? No. That has never been done.
4/14/2012 6:51:34 PM
4/14/2012 7:31:17 PM
If I build this for you can I lock you in it and toss it 100' into the air? You know. So we can test it and you can give accurate feedback.
4/14/2012 7:34:32 PM
because all of those houses had 2-4 dead people in them
4/14/2012 7:36:17 PM
4/14/2012 7:43:05 PM
SO WHY DON'T THEY JUST MAKE THE WHOLE PLANE OUT OF BLACK BOX?
4/14/2012 7:47:06 PM
^ lol
4/14/2012 7:54:21 PM
^^ hahahaha
4/14/2012 8:06:58 PM
Look at all those safes that just rolled along the ground...

4/14/2012 8:54:00 PM
I'm sure you guys read the part where I said the size was as big as a photobooth
4/14/2012 9:04:02 PM
That is the size of a photobooth.
4/14/2012 9:06:54 PM
If your idiocy was quantified, it would be that size.
4/14/2012 9:07:58 PM
See, it's still less than yours.

Who is brave enough to show through math and physics what wind speed it would take raise a 1200 lb 6x6x6' square into the air 100'?
4/14/2012 10:07:12 PM
You going to build your house around this thing? I doubt many houses are going to support a fucking 1200lb box with a 36sqft footprintCould definitely be wrong about thatBut I'd also imagine the thing would weigh way more than 1200lbs[Edited on April 14, 2012 at 10:14 PM. Reason : ]
4/14/2012 10:12:31 PM
I'm inclined to believe that if a tornado can throw a 3,500 lb car into the air, that it can also throw a 1,200 lb box into the air. From the tornadoproject:
4/14/2012 10:12:56 PM
Unless your anchored to the foundation about 80mph on a flat 36sq foot side would be enough to tip the thing. And it would hurt like a bitch if you were in that when it happened. If you'd like to test why being in in a big metal box thats rolling around would suck, I suggest finding a large barrel/trash can, climb in it, and have a 'friend' push you down a hill.

4/14/2012 10:31:08 PM
I'd rather be in a shelter...underground...like already exist

must have been geniusboys parents
4/14/2012 10:33:01 PM
jazon, they typically don't build basements here in virginia beach. With global warming and bigger, deadlier storms appearing every year, it seems it would be wise to take action now instead of wait for disaster. There were a few very close calls with tornados last summer and I had nowhere safe to run.
4/14/2012 10:38:45 PM
I didn't say anything about a basement, guy[Edited on April 14, 2012 at 10:40 PM. Reason : that was harsh]
