We did the Sistine Chapel last month. It looked a lot better than the glow in the dark stars that I had on the ceiling in my dorm room back in the dark ages.

another fun fact: the sistine chapel underwent an enormous restoration a few decades ago. took a few years, iirc.to see how drastic the difference was, look at the black box next to the word LIBICA at the bottom. i believe that's a patch left unrestored. the entire ceiling was caked with soot from centuries of burning candles.

^^perhaps. or maybe he was just trying to stress the pose. Michelangelo was so familiar with the figure, he frequently contorted them into impossible poses in his work and still managed to make them look "right''. example:^what do you want to know? this is just one of many figures painted on the sistine chapel ceiling. a number of them are 'sibyls', or prophets, from the bible. the second pic is just a few preparatory studies for the final painting. back then, using female models was essentially unheard of, so he did his prep work with a male model and adjusted her appearance to be more feminine in the finished work.i'm an art nerd.

I remember watching a show about him getting pissed at some of the guys he hired to help paint the background after they did a bunch of retarded stuff. Like painting an angel's wings on its front. That's about all know about it

Scuola Grande di San Rocco is better than the Sistine Chapel, IMO. That place blew me away.
