Let's say a company decided to destroy ~$80,000 worth of wine (at retail prices, per bottle) because it didn't meet their standards.Let's say they hired a ~20 year old kid to dispose of all of it. Let's say you have no money at all but know someone who does. What would you do in this situation?Somehow I ended up with 10 cases (~80 bottles) worth about ~$1,000 for free. So I can drink for free for a few nights. But are you kidding me? No one sees an opportunity here to take the other 790 cases before they destroy them?

I think it depends on the dogscircumstance

face, you seem like you go out and drink enough to know some waitresses, bartenders, and hopefully bar ownershow is this an issue? you never seen Goodfellas?[Edited on May 11, 2012 at 1:31 AM. Reason : and if 80 bottles of wine only lasts you a few days, you're a much, much bigger alcoholic than I][Edited on May 11, 2012 at 1:32 AM. Reason : and isn't a case 12 bottles? how do you have a "~80" quantity? arent you more math-savvy than that]
5/11/2012 1:30:34 AM
hell of a deal
5/11/2012 1:31:38 AM
When i say a "few" days i mean like a month.2 bottles of wine a day is 60 bottles. And there's other people drinking off of these. I don't want to get pissed off but i cant help it. $80,000 worth of retail? Could've sold that for $30k immediately or ~$50k on slow roll.
5/11/2012 1:34:41 AM
if i were in this situation, i'd Pauly Vario it and definitely wouldn't make a thread[Edited on May 11, 2012 at 1:38 AM. Reason : you think the average TWWer knows how to bootleg $40k in jamba juice?]
5/11/2012 1:37:14 AM
It took everything I had in me to upload this picture to my gallery. Someone transfer it to the thread so i can show you what 9 cases of free wine looks like. The tenth one is gone already
5/11/2012 2:11:58 AM
(hard work if it works)
5/11/2012 2:14:11 AM
My boyfriend is the director of winemaking for a winery owned by the same company. I will be fwd'ing this thread to the appropriate people.
5/11/2012 2:22:13 AM
nice, fuck over the guy making $8/hr. That'll show 'em!
5/11/2012 2:25:49 AM
Lol. I was just kidding - I could barely make out the winery on those boxes, not to mention I'm the farthest thing from a narc. But my bf IS really the wine guy at a vey prominent winery, so I like feeling cool by talking about it.

if the wine didn't "meet their standards", it might taste like crap

Might as well hire Greg Higher he's a sales guru.
5/11/2012 8:54:24 AM
I'd like to know why a company that is in the possession of $80K (retail) worth of wine decided to dispose of/destroy it rather than A)returning it or B)reselling it. Even if wholesale is half price, $40K is a rather large loss.
5/11/2012 10:29:37 AM
I used to work at a Coca-Cola distribution warehouse and was in charge of disposing of outdated/damaged stock that got returned from outlet stores. Most of the time, there was nothing really wrong, but they wouldn't let employees take them home for legal/accounting reasons, so I would literally dump thousands of gallons down the drain. Depending on why they're getting rid of the wine, you might want to be sure before you try to resell it or whatever else

Ok, so let's figure this whole situation out:Open seats in selected classes: 686Occupied by non FB/BB = 417 61%Occupied by FB = 246 or 36%Occupied by BB = 23 (ironic number) or 3% (adjusted = 25% see below)General population: 18,500Football players: 120Basketball: 16 So what is the general population's (non-football/basketball player) chance of randomly ending up in that seat? 99.2648% (18500 - 136)/18500= 0.992648648...What is a football players chance? 0.6% or 0.006486486...What is a basketball player's chance? 0.08% or 0.000864864...So if you divide the number of football players (120) by the number of basketball (16) players you get 7.5You take the number of basketball infractions (23) and multiply it by 7.5 to normalize the football and basketball teams you get 172.5172.5 would be the projected number of basketball players in these classes if there were as many basketball players as football players. This translates to an adjusted 25% of the total attendees if there were the same number of basketball players as football.Basketball is hiding behind the raw numbers. Their players statistically are in the same boat as football. Willing to bet the other sports would make it more interesting.
5/11/2012 1:52:05 PM
the situation isn't that hypothetical anymore, now that you've posted evidence of you actually having the wine
5/11/2012 1:54:59 PM
I have a pickup truck if that is what you are asking.
5/11/2012 1:55:32 PM
I was about to say, "throw some parties", but then I saw that the top boxes were Chardonnay. I also feel like this thread was made so you could show off your NC State memorabilia. [Edited on May 11, 2012 at 2:02 PM. Reason : .]

I'd be sure that not meeting their standards doesn't include stuff like rat feces or botulism and crap like that.[Edited on May 11, 2012 at 2:01 PM. Reason : b]
5/11/2012 2:01:17 PM
they should just mix it all together and market it as 2 buck chuck.
5/11/2012 2:02:27 PM
There are definite legal issues from selling it. If you're just talking about lower quality, and no other issues, then it's brand dilution. Anyone who drinks that lower quality wine will still associate it with the company's name overall, and a legal argument can be made it damages the brand of the company. Also, that company can also claim they are losing market share, because there are people who would have been in the wine purchasing field who are taken out because they now had access to this wine. Some of those individuals may have decided to purchase a higher quality bottle (or another of their cheaper bottles, if they offer lower quality wine). There are probably other arguments that could be made, but the short answer is stay away from selling it, because it could get you into a huge clusterfuck.
