it seems absurd but how do we know all those people that died in their sleep didn't just die in their dream?People say dreams are entirely subconcious (terrible food btw) but if you weren't paralyzed during sleep you would actually get up and do the things in your dream (sleep walking). Dreams seem so real. Your mind can actually convince you they are real sometimes. Would the experience of death send you into cardiac arrest?

I don't know, but we should cite several fictional movies as evidence

If you would like to sleep in a coffin, it would be alright.

I try to kill myself in dreams pretty much constantly.Someone will be like, "let's go on a sweet ass adventure" or "have sex with my sweet ass" and I'm just like, "nope."I have tried various quantities of illusionary medications with few results. If anyone can recommend a better supplement, I'd appreciate it.

In high school, I had a spear ran through me in a dream and woke clenching my chest in pain, but no, I did not die.

i think i died in a dream 2 nights ago, but i might've just been transformed into some kind of wraith/demon and killed from normal humanity, though i also recall my former allies killing me for turning into that demonic spiritbut i'm still alive IRLloljk, this is a bot posting

My girlfriend and I both suffer from near-death dreams, I guess. We feel like we can't breathe, or something bad is happening.. most of the time we think we're awake and screaming for the person next to us, yet nothing comes out, and obviously the other person can't hear whoever is having the dream. The only way we know it's happening to the other person is that they start shaking slightly. We always wake the other up if either of us see it, just in case. Can anyone diagnose this?

Sounds like a retrograde uterus to me.

If you die in a dream you will definitely die in real life. Also, if you live in a dream you will definitely die IRL.But no, you don't die IRL at the time you die in a dream. Usually you just wake up from the adrenalin surge. It's no fun, but it won't kill you unless you have an underlying condition such as a heart problem.[Edited on May 12, 2012 at 11:53 PM. Reason : l]

I've definitely died in a dream before, and I know I wasn't on the 'verge' of death because I followed the lives of the people I know in third person after dying.[Edited on May 13, 2012 at 12:50 AM. Reason : There was no adrenaline surge to wake me bc I died of cancer]

i get skewed by a bull's horns in my backyard in a dream when i was like 6 or 7 years olddoubt i'd survive that
5/13/2012 12:52:52 AM
I got shot in a dream once when I was maybe 8 or 9, and very distinctly remember "dying" in it, at least in the sense that I was afraid and everything faded to black. Then I woke up and said, "Woah." Or something to that effect. If sleep paralysis prevents you from acting out your dreams, why wouldn't it prevent you from croaking?
5/13/2012 12:59:12 AM
I have sleep apnea, so I almost die every night

i drowned in a dream once... a tsunami came through, and i got caught up in it. at first i was like "ok no big deal" but then a guy came over a magical PA system and said the tsunami would last 3 hours. I drowned. but not in real life.

I bet old people can die in a dream. I would think you might could condition your body to the point you could kill yourself by meditation, then maybe you could die in a dream.
5/13/2012 2:27:39 AM
^^drowning doesn't mean you dieit seems like all of the things people think means they "died" are just things that hurt them and can possibly be fatal. ie getting shot, stabbed, falling from a large height, going to sleep in the hospital with cancer etc.[Edited on May 13, 2012 at 4:16 AM. ^by definition it does.

drowning without dying = splashing

When I was little and I had night terrors, I would often die in my dreams. Then my dream would reset. It was like a game where I had to try to find a way to survive my dreams. Some nights I would have a dream that I had before, so it was easy for me to live through it. Even if I knew it was dream, I couldn't wake up until I made it far enough into the dream to have "survived." Some real scary shit yo.
5/13/2012 8:04:45 AM
^I am the exact same way with my dreams. Most of mine are recurring challenges I have to escape from.

If you go to sleep and not have dream, are you dead between the time you fell asleep and the time you wake up?
5/13/2012 3:11:48 PM
I had a dream where I was going number 2 and woke up to only realize that I was on the toilet, with a fresh log in the toilet. So, I have to wonder.

Last night I dreamed that President Obama called me at work, wanting me to rescue Clarissa Explains It All from Stringer Bell's condo. I spent like 30 minutes trying to convince Obama that Stringer was dead but he wouldn't hear that shit.

is it safe to say that we are all just part of somebody's dream right now?
6/6/2012 1:31:11 PM
the adrenaline rush from intense experiences in dreams are always going to rouse you. Whether it's scary like death, or pleasureful like sex, the heart rate increase will interrupt sleep.
