seriously, i think g105 is about 50% adele, 25% outdated dance pop (im talkin shit from last summer like party rock anthem, AT LEAST PLAY ANOTHER SONG ON THE ALBUM FFS), and 25% "call me maybe". There are so many other NEW songs of the top 40 variety that could be played, but they're playing this same old shit over and over, i think their entire playlist is about 8 songs total.thank god i'm moving to south florida, at least their radio stations have variety.ibt 'why would you listen to the radio'.
6/1/2012 11:36:23 AM
93.9 is better than G105 for that sort of music imo. At least when they play old music it's stuff from the 80s that makes me nostalgic even if it's a crappy song
6/1/2012 11:37:47 AM
lol. you think someone picks the songs.
6/1/2012 11:39:16 AM
lol I was listening to the radio the other day and they played Nookie by Limp Bizkit. Seriously, who wants to listen to that song?
6/1/2012 11:39:46 AM
I 100% agree, and have tried emailing and calling local radio stations (94.7 and 96.1 do the exact same thing). All the stations respond with "just call in and request the song you want".I dont know who in the world would want to listen to Adele 10-15 times a day? What is so maddening is the fact that when someone calls in to request a song, ITS USUALLY THE OVERPLAYED SONG they requested.I have to listen to the radio, I drive other peoples cars every day.
6/1/2012 11:43:12 AM
^^^ im talking about the higher ups who get told by large corporations which songs to play. you'd think by now they would phase out songs from last year and play this summer's new hits.also, i've had about enough of that song by "karmin". how did they get famous again? oh they had a decent cover on youtube, don't think that warrants a record deal.[Edited on June 1, 2012 at 11:44 AM. for the ppl that request songs, may I suggest youtube?
6/1/2012 11:44:50 AM
6/1/2012 11:45:11 AM
i hate how 93.3 plays songs 5% faster than they're supposed to be. it drives me INSANE. people sound like chipmunks. how are they allowed to do that?
6/1/2012 11:45:48 AM
and this is why NPR is the only thing worth listening to on local broadcast radio
6/1/2012 11:45:58 AM
6/1/2012 11:47:19 AM
^^I cycle between NPR and Funny 570AM (all stand-up comedy)[Edited on June 1, 2012 at 11:48 AM. Reason : air owes]
6/1/2012 11:47:35 AM
There is one urban station here in St. Louis that I call DrakeRadio. ALL DAY LONG.
6/1/2012 11:57:39 AM
is this anything new?do you not understand how the music industry works?and i happen to like that karmin song, but im nto an idiot that does nothing but listen to the radio like a lemming, I can actually show a little temperance and songs remain enjoyable indefinitely[Edited on June 1, 2012 at 12:20 PM. 6/1/2012 12:18:38 PM
Why the hell were you listening to G105 in the first place?
6/1/2012 12:19:48 PM
6/1/2012 12:30:02 PM
but they play the gotye with the drumz
6/1/2012 12:37:49 PM
I'm sick of that song now...which kinda sucks.
6/1/2012 12:38:14 PM
Adele was on four XM stations at the same time a few days ago. That fat cunt needs to be carted back to England.
6/1/2012 12:44:38 PM
LOL couldn't have said it better myself

i think there are less extreme options than moving to south florida. i could be wrong, i'm not a radio guy.
6/1/2012 2:30:21 PM
fuck moving to south florida. i ain't risking getting my face ate off.

I pick them. Also, fuck you. I had JUST managed to get "Call Me Maybe" out of my head, and now it's on repeat again. [Edited on June 4, 2012 at 9:25 AM. Reason : .]

^^ in the Raleigh area I would add WKNC to that list...as well as sports radio if you're into that.]
6/4/2012 9:25:13 AM
WSHA plays some cool stuff too
6/4/2012 9:30:52 AM
^^Yeah I really enjoy 680am and 99.9 the Fan. The only thing that sucks is the afternoons. Can't stomach Dave Glenn or Jim Rome.
6/4/2012 9:35:02 AM
Radio stations have what's called a Program Director. They pick the music, but typically they play what's popular (in terms of Top 40 stations, like G105 and WQDR). Stations like 96.1 will use market research groups to gather a sample of their target audience, collect them in a room and make them listen to hundreds and hundreds of 7-15sec clips of songs in their catalog, usually the "hook," or most well known part of a song, and have them say whether or not they like the song on a form. They then use that information to populate their playlist. Specifically speaking of 96.1, the program director is an idiot (I worked for him for a couple of years) and he is personally destroying rock radio in the triangle. I could tell you a few of his favorite bands, but you could probably figure that out just by listening...

WKNC is only good when they're off their indie rock schedule. Geet Bazaar, bluegrass, metal, hiphop, punk, etc. All the stuff they never play during rush hour.99.9 is hit and miss. The afternoon guys will often set up an inane argument and spend an entire hour or more browbeating it. Also if you aren't interested in the subject you might as well change the station because you know they'll be stuck talking about it for forever. I guess that's what it takes to fill their shifts but I'd prefer a format where the subject changes often, even if they just end up with an hour of material that's repeated 3 times.[Edited on June 4, 2012 at 10:20 AM. Is 96.1 still the ” we play alice in chains every hour” radio station?
6/4/2012 11:14:58 AM
Yes but now they also play "Love Shack" and "Mony Mony" every hour as well.
6/4/2012 11:16:02 AM

^ if by man in the box you mean <insert Van Halen song> and by rooster you mean <insert ZZ Top song>
6/4/2012 6:46:12 PM
When 100.7 isn't spamming Kitty Kinnin or Christmas Music it is the best in the triangle.
6/4/2012 7:02:06 PM
RALEIGH RADIO SUCKS. there is not a worse selection of music anywhere else in the country When the two best stations are sports radio ( 99.9) and comedy (570am) something is very wrong
6/4/2012 7:23:22 PM
6/4/2012 7:27:11 PM
I wish there was a way for me to listen to the music that I like through my car and then choose how I want to listen, like take a trip through Sgt. Peppers, or a trip down memory lane of all things grunge, or just random songs. Does anyone know such a way?
6/5/2012 12:57:29 PM

Why cant we get something together that can be sent to these program directors and show them how many people are unsatisfied with the radio? I've tried all the outlets I know (email and social media), I'm lost on how to make them aware that we need better radio.Or I'll just keep Listening to my Pandora. Even that shit gets old after a while.
6/7/2012 9:55:19 PM
So how does the radio industry work? I keep hearing people say the repeat music is because of how the radio industry works. For example, why can't a classic rock radio station play every Pink Floyd, or Rolling Stones song that they have in their library before they repeat the same one. And why can't they have every radio track ever put out by classic bands like that?
