http://www.indyweek.com/indyweek/best-of-the-triangle-2012-readers-choice-poll-winners-and-finalists/Content?oid=3081364&showFullText=trueMost of it seems on point...some weird spots though. No Big Ed's for breakfast? Didn't even make the finalists? Ba-Da is The Best Place to Chill in Wake County as well as finalist for Best Sports Bar? Angus Barn has the best steak? Char Grill and Five Guys are finalists for Best Burger in Wake County?
6/13/2012 9:13:02 AM
What do you expect when they let the plebeians vote? That said Char-grill makes a solid burger when you're just looking for a basic old school burger. I feel like really they should have two burger categories, cheap burger and gourmet burger or something.
6/13/2012 9:16:59 AM
BaDa got 2nd place in Trivia! thats awesome
6/13/2012 9:22:59 AM
Fullsteam Brewery? Seriously???
6/13/2012 9:34:30 AM
^ It's mostly Durham hipsters that vote in this thing so not too surprising when you consider the demographics.
6/13/2012 9:35:54 AM
My magazine does a readers' choice awards every year too. It's always full of chains, which we hate, as does everyone else, but it's what people voted on. Then we get flamed for only "picking" chains.
6/13/2012 9:37:14 AM
6/13/2012 9:39:24 AM
6/13/2012 9:40:31 AM
but...wouldnt durham hipsters NOT pick the chains?anyways the Indy is a liberal rag...fuck it
6/13/2012 9:42:30 AM
^^ hah that wouldn't surprise me. I think it'd be hard to write a script with the way they set up the poll (you have to register with the site etc).^ I meant for Fullsteam explicitly. Hipsters probably didn't vote in the burger category because burgers are too mainstream
6/13/2012 9:44:49 AM
6/13/2012 10:14:48 AM
what's wrong with Fullsteam?
6/13/2012 10:34:15 AM
Nothing wrong with Fullsteam but I don't think they're the best microbrew in the area.
6/13/2012 10:36:59 AM
6/13/2012 10:40:48 AM
^^^the only area brewery I would chose Fullsteam over is Roth.
6/13/2012 10:44:41 AM
There is a Bada right next to Cat's Cradle.
6/13/2012 10:46:19 AM
^We go to that one sometimes since we live a lot closer to it. Still prefer the one in Raleigh more.Any thoughts on SE Camera/Peace? I kinda prefer SE at this point, but that may be because I can make the Carrboro store in under 5 minutes, but the Raleigh one is 45 minutes away. And WTF Wolf was on this list??? Ugh.[Edited on June 13, 2012 at 10:48 AM. Reason : ]
6/13/2012 10:47:14 AM
o shit bada is a chain now
6/13/2012 10:47:48 AM
TWW isn't listed as the best place to meet women?!?!
you mean men
6/13/2012 10:48:21 AM
6/13/2012 10:48:28 AM
^We tried out Only Burger as it was recommended from Indy and others. I did not think it was such a great place versus Five Guys, and the drive to get there is a bit longer than hitting the Five Guys in Meadowmont. Seemed way overpriced for what you got too.
6/13/2012 10:49:36 AM
Yeah I tried the Only Burger food truck once and it was pretty good but not great. I like Char Grill more for that type of burger personally.
6/13/2012 10:50:32 AM
its not the hipsters its the duke students that votethe only burger truck was dope before brightleaf kicked them off main stthe actual store they opened kinda sucked, they lost that flame grilled taste and are too heavy handed with the types of burgers they offer[Edited on June 13, 2012 at 10:52 AM. Reason : e]
6/13/2012 10:50:58 AM
If it were Duke students that voted, wouldn't it be all restaurants in New Jersey that would win? Seriously though, TWW needs to skew this shit next year. Have a bunch of random restaurants win lol.[Edited on June 13, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Reason : a]
6/13/2012 11:00:10 AM
lmao
6/13/2012 11:00:38 AM
^^^Yea the truck is better than the store. I still think in my area though that Bun's has the best variety for burgers. But just in Durham County I would probably pick Five Guys over Only Burger for brick and mortar locations.Glad to see some of my favorites like Carrburritos in there. Kinda surprised that so many fucking Carrboro places won or were finalists considering its a tiny little town on the edge of the "Triangle". I guess they have a lot of hippies who read & vote on Indyweek.[Edited on June 13, 2012 at 11:35 AM. Reason : ]
6/13/2012 11:33:56 AM
i'm not in the triangle and don't know anything about triangle burgersin fact i live in a city with a large-scale burger-craze happening5 guys is a super good burger.
6/13/2012 12:36:19 PM
Need more categories.
6/13/2012 1:06:02 PM
The PR.And I also recomend Newcomb and Company.
6/13/2012 1:09:18 PM
I wonder how many years in a row WKNC has won. I think it'd be cool if they listed all the years a place has won for each category.
6/13/2012 1:16:09 PM
Snoopy's
6/13/2012 1:17:01 PM
^truth
6/13/2012 1:22:15 PM
6/13/2012 1:27:55 PM
How is it even possible to vote on a "best barista" or worse a "best bartender"?But good job picking chuck's as best burger. Imo it's the best most afforable burger you can buy.
6/13/2012 2:16:06 PM
<< best maker-outer
6/13/2012 2:18:46 PM
Snoopy's (sober) Snoopy's (drunk)
6/13/2012 2:22:54 PM
I kinda like Snoopy's. Probably a mix of nostalgia and the fact that it's a minute from my house.
6/13/2012 2:33:07 PM
I should have added this. I like Snoopy's fries (a lot) and their chicken tenders.
6/13/2012 2:47:25 PM
I was the best at the triangle in 2nd grade band. Fuckin' Phill Collins on that shit.
6/13/2012 2:49:54 PM
Snoopy's has great chicken salad and there soup is great in the winter
6/13/2012 3:09:49 PM
I like Snoopy's hot dogs, fries, and coca cola with the little ice pebbles.I don't think I've ever had anything else there.
6/13/2012 3:26:59 PM
there's nothing there I really dislike. Their chicken sandwiches are ok, their hamburgers (chili and onions) are ok, their bbq is ok. I hardly ever get their hot dogs.
6/13/2012 3:32:00 PM
I remember one year in Burlington when Subway won Best Sandwich, Starbucks was Best Coffee, and KFC won Best Fried Chicken.
6/13/2012 4:37:10 PM
6/13/2012 6:35:35 PM
I really like Fullsteam's beer, other than that Hogwash bullshit
6/13/2012 7:09:57 PM
6/13/2012 7:12:13 PM
I like these people acting like stuff sucks just because "hipsters" like it.Oh wait, I forgot, everyone here is into that jam band shit. I'd rather give myself a lobotomy with a letter opener.
6/14/2012 11:42:11 AM
^^^So FullSteam is kid friendly? I have wondered this, as we are rarely without our boys, and I have yet to hit up Lonerider, Fullsteam or Big Boss because I was concerned about whether or not they would be acceptable places for children in the afternoon/evening (not late night stuff).
6/14/2012 12:12:40 PM
Lonerider isn't the place for kidsit's in the back of their warehouse, there's a good number of things for kids to get injured on[Edited on June 14, 2012 at 12:41 PM. Reason : .]
