http://nashville.craigslist.org/rnr/3180887519.htmlShould I call and complain?
8/4/2012 6:48:29 PM
Shoulda bought a MacBook.
8/4/2012 6:49:25 PM
Ty chrome for letting me see this from the tablet. Now how do I work this to my advantage?
8/4/2012 6:51:02 PM
I am totally confused
8/4/2012 6:55:41 PM
Chrome allows me to sync webpages to all of my devices. One day ago it synced that page. My laptop has been with HP repairs center since Wednesday.
8/4/2012 8:12:36 PM
lolol
8/4/2012 8:22:00 PM
8/4/2012 8:37:14 PM
I wonder what I can get out of it. Think they'll add ram? Repair is already free under warranty
8/4/2012 8:51:30 PM
Called HP support and got the wheels in motion
8/4/2012 9:27:28 PM
Fortunately for you, you use Chrome.Unfortunately for the service technician, he used Chrome.
8/4/2012 9:33:43 PM
If the dude didn't use chrome I never would have known. IE was still on the computer, just not pinned because it's junk. Now that dude might lose his job and I might get a better computer
8/4/2012 9:38:39 PM
i'm curious...how will you prove they did it?i mean, i understand what you're saying, i'm just not sure how you think you can PROVE it
8/4/2012 9:44:27 PM
I have the tab. I should take pictures
8/4/2012 9:45:41 PM
maybe i don't understand how chrome syncs across all devices...does it say which device pulled up the tab first?
8/4/2012 9:47:00 PM
Chrome says the tab was synced from my laptop a day ago. I can't possibly pull up that tab on my laptop without my laptop
8/4/2012 9:49:15 PM
i get that, and i think i'm one step closer to believing you'll get somewhere......except, how do you prove that the "laptop" the page was opened on was the laptop they had in their possession?
8/4/2012 9:52:55 PM
There's only one laptop under my Google account and it was named [myfirstandlastnamehereincaps]-HP
8/4/2012 9:55:12 PM
who's to say it's not a different one?i'm just thinking what i'd say if i were in some HP guy's shoes (not the one that was surfing CL)...i'd probably say "yeah, okay, prove it" or "we don't negotiate with terrorists" or something
8/4/2012 9:58:32 PM
I'm sure i could get navy legal involved with a call if I need to.
8/4/2012 10:02:01 PM
lets see if they're smart enough to clear the History or notcause if you get the laptop back and can just open up the History and see "craigslist porn ad - 2 days ago" and they had your laptop 2 days ago, shouldn't be very difficult
8/4/2012 10:04:26 PM
Yeah... HP isn't going to give you shit. A guy may get disciplined/lose his job. That's all.
8/4/2012 10:12:24 PM
might not give you shit...unless you convince them you're a church going man who is disgusted by seeing that filth
8/4/2012 10:14:01 PM
What do you think the odds are of HP giving two shits?
8/4/2012 10:19:58 PM
a multi-billion dollar company giving someone the hardware equivalent of a few hundred bucks compared to a media story that HP surfs the web for porn on customers' laptops might increase the odds that HP gives a shit
8/4/2012 10:21:41 PM
HP ISN'T GIVING YOU SHITthe correct way to get free shit is to find out which tech did it and contact him directly
8/4/2012 10:24:36 PM
Seriously. If I went to say CNET or Engadget instead of tww with my story it's a ton of bad PR which could cost them thousands of dollars of sales.
8/4/2012 10:25:18 PM
I might be able to swing a flash drive or something at minimum. Maybe an extended warranty?
8/4/2012 10:26:35 PM
sounds like settledown is the tech with your laptopalso sounds like merbig surfs for porn on customers' laptops[Edited on August 4, 2012 at 10:31 PM. Reason : v]
8/4/2012 10:27:56 PM
^^^ Except nobody will care.
8/4/2012 10:29:09 PM
You don't think that people would care if HP tech support was violating your privacy as well as looking for sex on craigslist?
8/4/2012 10:36:17 PM
What evidence do you have that they are violating your privacy? And LOL! That's not porn. At the very most, you caught an employee goofing off. At the very least, you caught an employee testing your laptop and clicked a craigslist ad with a WTF title. Seriously, yo're not getting shit.
8/4/2012 10:38:17 PM
a WTF title? title has the word "nude" in itnobody here is truly offended by what he posted, but thats cause this is TWWmotherfuckers ITT act like things like publicity, the media, and the court of public opinion don't exist
8/4/2012 10:39:38 PM
You act as though anyone will give a shit. Not to mention, you telling them that you'll post it on CNET or anywhere else is blackmail...
8/4/2012 10:40:53 PM
lol blackmail? its blackmail to say your dissatisfaction with their customer service will lead you to inform a computer website about it?]
8/4/2012 10:42:21 PM
No, it's blackmail to tell them that unless you get free shit, you'll tell a website. If you're not blackmailing them, then you wouldn't inquire about free shit.
8/4/2012 10:43:32 PM
its not blackmail if you say "i'm not happy about how the technician used my laptop when it was in your repair center...i could easily report this to a major website"the fact that the repairs were covered under warranty kind of hamper this, if it was a service he had to pay for you could easily demand a free repair without it being blackmail]
8/4/2012 10:45:12 PM
Yeah... That kinda is.
8/4/2012 10:46:10 PM
kinda? you might wanna look up the definition of blackmailpretty sure it involves demanding something in return for keeping quietnot tactfully informing a company you'll use the world wide web to express your dissatisfaction with their servicesand lol at HP suing him for blackmail because he wanted a few hundred bucks of free shit for their employees surfing for porn on his laptop[Edited on August 4, 2012 at 10:49 PM. Reason : its not porn, but the jury doesnt care]
8/4/2012 10:47:48 PM
You're making a threat... It's a form of coercion. And blackmail isn't a civil offense. There is no suing involved. All they have to do is inform the police and have his ass arrested. [Edited on August 4, 2012 at 10:51 PM. Reason : .]
8/4/2012 10:49:59 PM
so rather than give a customer a little free shit, you think that HP is literally going to call the police to report "blackmail" knowing that that would DEFINITELY cause the customer to take his porn story to the media outlets? give me a fucking break
8/4/2012 10:53:44 PM
LOL. But it's not porn...And the media outlets aren't going to give a shit over this[Edited on August 4, 2012 at 10:55 PM. Reason : .]
8/4/2012 10:54:58 PM
not to you or me its isnt pornits still inappropriate content...its not like he was pinging NFL.com to test his internet connection, he literally pulled up a page with nudityits worth breaching the subject to somebody at HP...they're not going to arrest you[Edited on August 4, 2012 at 10:57 PM. Reason : tell Apple about it...you dont think they'd want to buttfuck a competitor?]
8/4/2012 10:56:52 PM
I don't have to blackmail them. They probably understand that if they don't do something to as the guy who handled my call said "restores my faith in the company" I could every well go to a tech outlet with my dissatisfaction and they'd take a major PR hit
8/4/2012 10:57:44 PM
I don't give a shit and neither will anyone else.
8/4/2012 10:58:24 PM
8/4/2012 10:59:00 PM
The page before that page looked like a craigslist hookup page. The first page on that tab looked like he tried to read my email
8/4/2012 10:59:50 PM
^^i hear you 100% but its not a craiglist ad that someone would stumble uponlet alone why the hell would some technician need to pull up anything on craigslist while testing a customer's laptop?^if he tried to read your email, that sounds more serious than the "porn" he looked at[Edited on August 4, 2012 at 11:00 PM. Reason : .]
8/4/2012 11:00:13 PM
yeah, i'd be more upset if he tried to look at my email than looking at CLbut they could argue that the email thing was a genuine accident while, as TT noted, the CL ad isn't exactly an easy to think to "accidentally" come acrossdon't get me wrong, i'm all for you getting something out of it...i just don't think it'll happen
8/4/2012 11:04:58 PM
I didn't look back far enough on the tab before I called to see the gmail page
8/4/2012 11:07:20 PM
Looks like I might be getting more RAM
