Judge if you want...But I posted on facebook that I thought bullying was a result of bad parenting. I watched the big bang theory tonight- and thought about all the bullies that made fun of me in school. It was on my mind. That's not a crime.Being bullied is a part of growing up, yeah, it's bad now because there's social media to compound it- it sucks and it can make you feel lousy....Trust me- Huge nerd here- I busted my face in when I was 11- I've heard it all. I'm not here to say it made me stronger, or angry, or whatever- it's all neutral. The bitch that made fun of my flat chest had her husband cheat on her with my best friend- karma's a bitch, bitch!ANYWAY- so on facebook I made the bold statement of saying that parents need to teach their children love and acceptance by actually exemplifying love and acceptance. This chick - who I worked with at a coffee shop one summer -and is the mother of 3 kids- one of which is autistic- posts back "WELL, I guess I'm a bad parent because there's nothing I can do to stop my son from being a bully even though i've never condoned it and punish him when he does it." Dude. He's 8, one. 2- he has a brother who is autistic- that's got to make a kid go through some confusion. and 3- The autistic son wears a leash. SO...I'm taking suggestions from the ever-witty teedub community to suggest zingers to respond to this chick. Here are some of my ideas:"Walks like a duck; quacks like a duck.""Maybe it's time for some introspection." (Not too witty...more of a nail in coffin for her to defriend me)Have you ever posted something on facebook that was a bold opinion that struck a nerve with an innocent bystander-friend?

i used to post my run workouts on fb for motivation for myself, mostly, and one day this chick from my hs gets snippy on my posti can't remember exactly what she said, but she definitely got defensive, like we were in a foot race or something i lol'dnot the same, but kinda similar
8/9/2012 9:39:45 PM
So you've made instigating comments in a public forum and want help belittling someone who responds with their opinion.Sounds exactly like bully behavior, which makes you a hypocrite and this a dumbass thread.
8/9/2012 9:40:13 PM
Whoa, mitt romney- don't twist my words up here to try to make people like you.I don't want to belittle her, I just want to brainstorm some comments that basically illustrate raising my eyebrows without saying anything...
8/9/2012 9:48:31 PM
^^^unbelievable. I switched to only posting one run workout a week because my brother got all rude in the comments. [Edited on August 9, 2012 at 9:53 PM. Reason : Ccccccc]

Simply post this.

While I agree with you, to a point, I don't see what you accomplish by zinging a mother of three with a special needs kid because she's being reactionary to your statement. And when a parent is trying, I prefer to refer to it as ineffective parenting instead of bad parenting. There is absolutely a difference.

Don't quite understand the recent fascination with bullying... and quite frankly, I find the idea of "acceptance" to be just as disturbing. There is a documented biological basis for why certain behaviors are considered societal norms while others are shunned.

h8r- excellent...and bottombaby- you're so right...excellent point. And how do I get that transformer thingy?
8/9/2012 10:06:33 PM
just accept that your dumbass child is gonna be bullied

Bullies are a result of bad parenting, but parenting is at the root of our society's problems.Show me a bully that has even-tempered, respectful parents who were actually there. I don't think you can. Those little assholes picking on other kids? They either came from bigger assholes, or their parents weren't there to raise them. No, dropping the kids off at daycare or government daycare (erm...."school") doesn't count as parenting. I get it, you have to work to live, and sometimes that means it doesn't seem financially viable to devote one parents time to raising a kid. Maybe it actually isn't viable, but that's a symptom of our broken society. Humans did not evolve with high rates of single mother households where the mother had to work to survive. Children should be raised by two parents; the glorification of female "independence" over family and the alienation of fathers (drug war, other initiatives designed to transfer responsibilities of the father over to the state) has really taken a toll on the culture here. More bullying, more shootings, more anti-social behavior in general.I'm not your guy for a zinger, unfortunately. I don't know what you say to a person that has basically admitted to being a poor parent.[Edited on August 9, 2012 at 10:49 PM. Reason : ]

I bullied my fair share of kids back in my day... and was bullied by several as well... and my parents were certainly there. While I agree that the lack of parenting is a root cause of problems in lower income communities, just as helicopter parenting is the problem with upper income communities, you are really grasping at straws to claim that bullying is a manifestation of poor parenting. Bullying is a perfectly natural phenomenon that is observed in every species on the planet.

spanking is linked with aggressive behavior?? we are predisposed to belittle people at a young age?I'm pretty sure we just live in a filthy rich country and have kids growing up with a false belief that they are entitled to things that they didn't earn....AND NONE OF US ARE AN EXCEPTION TO THAT

Take advice from these guys:When you're called off, get a sawed-off; squeeze the trigger, and bodies are hauled off.[Edited on August 10, 2012 at 12:29 AM. Reason : AK-47 is the tool.

Oh, you are one of those pussy liberals that thinks spanking a child that acts up is going to turn them into Charlie Manson...Grow a pair and show some discipline. That said, I am reminded of a story that Sheriff Donnie Harrison of Wake County told me a while back... This mother called them out to her house because her child wasn't listening to her. Donnie mentions in passing that all the kid needs is a good whooping to which the mother responds with the same nonsense line you just dropped about spanking leading to violent behavior... Donnie's response: "If that was the case I would be in my jail and not running it."

Maybe DJ Lauren had in mind that old murder rap to keep ya dancin' with a crime record like Charles Manson.

^^ Man that video is downright excellent! I love the two girls in the background. the one on the left looks displeased pretty much the whole time. The one on the right looks displeased at first, but after a bit she warms up to the idea of having this chic dance about and whatnot... Its like she doesn't wanna look, but she wants to look.0:35- quick glance at the ass.0:36- three second stare0:47-0:51 - this is awesome

sparky had the best comment. however, low self-esteem may not come from just the parents, so hopefully the woman in question wouldn't have the defensive reaction you expect, and will actually contemplate doing it.[Edited on August 10, 2012 at 2:40 PM. Reason : ]
