Get his ass off of the stage. I'm a blue blood democrat, but holy shit, this is painful to watch.

bat-shit crazier than Ron Paul
8/30/2012 10:29:30 PM
Did they even check to see what he was going to do?No one is even going to remember what the hell Romney says. Maybe that was the plan all along?

Theory! Clint botched the speech on purpose bc he's really a Ron Paul supporter
8/30/2012 11:41:43 PM
wonder if the DNC is already on the phone trying to get some liberal Hollywood actor to perform in Charlotte to dissect Eastwood's 'speech'
8/30/2012 11:43:57 PM
^I think they've had that covered for a while.
8/30/2012 11:50:35 PM

8/30/2012 11:50:46 PM
^^^I hope to goodness that doesn't happen.Clint Eastwood is a national treasure, and after everybody has gotten their chatter out of the way tomorrow, I'd like to forget what I saw as quickly as possible.[Edited on August 30, 2012 at 11:56 PM. Reason : ]

Comedy was never the Republicans' strong point. They should stop attempting it, especially on such a large stage. That was supposed to be comedy, right?
8/30/2012 11:58:52 PM
What's going on? What'd Clint do...?
8/31/2012 12:00:44 AM
i didnt watch it live, cause i'm not gonna watch some dumb fucking political "convention" (circle jerk) when theres football on...but i did watch it on youtube because of all the people talking about iti dont get what was so bad...that an 80 year old stuttered a few times? that he acted like obama was in a chair next to him to make his jokes instead of just calling him out directly when he knew he wasnt there?
8/31/2012 12:00:49 AM
8/31/2012 12:01:38 AM
8/31/2012 12:08:02 AM
i didnt even notice that when i watched it, but just googled it and to some its apparently a big deal
8/31/2012 12:13:56 AM
It's halftime AmericaIn Obama's presidency
8/31/2012 12:17:34 AM
I thought he made some pretty funny jokes, Clint is a pretty cool guy in my book.
8/31/2012 12:17:53 AM
^^^^^^In the context of the convention, it was too bizarre to really describe, but if I had to describe it, I would say it was like watching a really bad court jester.Except he's Clint Eastwood...he still makes ridiculously awesome movies, and he's up there humiliating himself for a bunch of people who aren't even close to his political allies. AT ALL. If he had been much better prepared and done something totally different, it could have been a totally kickass moment for third parties.
8/31/2012 12:28:41 AM
Third parties? What the hell are you talking about? His speech was a train wreck. If his audience was an empty chair, he woulda killed it.But as it was, it was a complete failure.
8/31/2012 12:39:25 AM
audience seemed to like iti mean his 'speech' was pandering to them, but i dont know how you could say the in-person audience didnt like itthe rest of the general public is another story i suppose
8/31/2012 12:41:02 AM
I heard a bunch of laughing.
8/31/2012 12:43:53 AM
I'm watching the speech now, I never realized the GOP was anti-war o.O
8/31/2012 12:49:55 AM
it wasn't great...but i don't think i'd call it a train wreck.
8/31/2012 12:54:27 AM
^^^^^Clint Eastwood is a not a Republican. If he was allowed to speak on his actual political beliefs, which are largely tied to libertarianism, and if he actually had time to prepare, it would have been much better. Do you understand now?^^^^The audience "liked" everything except Romney's bit about helping the poor.[Edited on August 31, 2012 at 1:06 AM. Reason : ]

they should have had him last time to make mccain look young.
8/31/2012 1:10:51 AM
just listened to it, had no problems with his speech. sure he stammered and botched shit up but dude is working on his 80's. he had a very centrist speech and stated what he felt was wrong with the obama term, cant fault him there. lol at republicans cheering to pull people out of afghanistan tomorrow though
8/31/2012 1:25:13 AM
^ same here, i don't respect him any less.I'm not sure if an old white guy with messed up hair is who the republicans need representing them now, but his speech wasn't a disaster, IMO.

I guess I'll end my comments with this post. I couldn't sleep so I'm just gonna post this long thing for nobody to read.First off, it does not matter how old you are...you are not supposed to stumble and stammer your way through a speech on national TV. Really, going up on stage and incompetently riffing on a few things you don't like doesn't even qualify as giving a speech. Now you guys may not have paid much attention to political gatherings of this nature (which is a good thing), but Clint Eastwood's performance was truly jaw-dropping. Consider the attention paid to Howard Dean saying "Wooo!" too loud near a microphone. Remember how everyone made fun of him for it? Now compare that to this.Secondly, the content made no sense in the context of the convention. Does he want Gitmo closed or no? It sounded like he wanted it to stay open, and he wanted to bash Obama for leaving it open. Politically, you don't get to call out flip-fops/failures when they go directly in your favor. For example, if Mitt Romney comes out and say he's pro-choice again, Democrats should not criticize him for finally seeing and accepting their party's point-of-view about reproductive rights. That type of criticism ruins the incentive for people to reconsider issues and make compromises--why change if the other side is just going to bash you for agreeing with them?He criticized Obama's performance in Afghanistan, dropping the hammer about Obama's supposed ignorance of Russia's experience there. But it was a Republican president who put us in Afghanistan knowing full well it would be a disaster. We have all seen the video footage of ex-VP Cheney carefully explaining why the United States should never go to war in Afghanistan, citing a number of things, including Russia's failed invasion. He wants us to pull the troops out of Afghanistan ASAP. A half hour later, Mitt Romney, the guy he supposedly supports, gets up and hints at all the other wars/conflicts we may need to deploy our troops to.He doesn't think lawyers make good presidents because they're always looking at all sides of an issue (as if that's a bad thing?). Mitt Romney, of course, has a law degree and is well-known for his ability to examine the issues through tedious consideration of all the numbers. He criticizes Obama's gas guzzler in front of an audience that pretends global warming doesn't exist or isn't affected by man. Thirty minutes later, Romney gets up and actually makes fun of environmentalism.According to Eastwood, conservatives don't go around hotdogging it. And yet he's at the Republican National Convention attempting to wing a speech off the top of his head. He closed the speech with some vague talk about not having to vote for someone just because he's a nice guy: is he telling Republicans to vote for someone other than Romney? Cause it kinda sounded like it, and his original endorsement wasn't very passionate or explicitly in favor of Romney: "I think possibly now it may be time for somebody else to come along and solve the problem." Anyway, we haven't even touched on the fact that his main rhetorical device was an empty chair or that his speech was pretty much incoherent as a whole and in the context of the RNC.[Edited on August 31, 2012 at 2:30 AM.
