My mom has been fostering 2 older dogs who's owners decided they would have a "change of lifestyle" (they wanted to go on more vacations) so they dropped them off and were about to be euthanized... My mom volunteers at the SPCA every weekend and took them in (along with her other foster dogs). Well, the other night one of them had to go to the vet and have emergency surgery for "bloat" in the stomach... Anyway, my mom dipped into her personal money to help out this dog. If you don't want to donate I understand, but if you do donate, it would be MUCH appreciated. http://pawnc.chipin.com/jasmines-emergency-vet-visit

Does the SPCA not cover fostering costs anymore?

if your mom loved dogs shed have no problem sacrificing her money to save the doggie

Thanks for the link. What was the bloat?

2^ She already sacrificed her money, which means she has no problem doing it, but bloat surgery is very costly and I see no problem with her wanting to get a little back. You need to stop letting people piss in your cornflakes every morning. I used to like you.[Edited on September 13, 2012 at 9:48 AM. Reason : .]

old dogs that were unwanted + expensive surgery = time to put 'em down.

the spca does not euthanize dogs that are able to be adopted I don't think. I used to volunteer there too and I'm pretty sure as long as the dogs weren't violent or deathly sick they weren't put to sleep. Wake county animal shelter does euthanize though. She may have picked them up from there as a means of saving their lives and "fostered" them herself.

^yep. If the dog is adoptable and isn't terminally ill, etc., then the SPCA will not euthanize.

Bloat is serious and SPCA may put an old dog down for it rather than pay for the surgery.

my dog had bloat but the internet saved her. I gave her 2 big doses of gas-x and rushed her to the vet. that was some scary shit i thought only happened in cartoons

^I lost my dog to bloat. Its fucking terrible. I had no idea about it at the time, and just thought she was constipated or some shit. We caught it way too late unfortunately.

Is it similar to colic in horses? The difference being that horses can't burp or vomit?

to answer a few questions... no my mom does not get paid to foster. she does it because she feels like she is helping... she has spent what must be thousands of dollars setting up outdoor pins (for dogs that need to be separate from her other dogs while they are outside) and whatnot to foster dogs... she even turned one of the bedrooms in her house into a puppy room for when she fosters puppies.I don't think these dogs came from the SPCA... they were at a kill shelter. And my mom did not set this donation thing up... Not even sure if she knew about it. Someone else set it up for the benefit of these dogs.

You dog lovers should also foster for Triangle Beagle Rescue. They need fosters. They also need donations for Willie. Check the website for pics of him - he's so pitiful
