is that something you should go see a doctor about or just let nature take its course?

how do you know its broken?

If you want to make sure it heals properly, I'd see a doctor. How do you know it's broken? Is it that bad?
9/13/2012 7:07:56 AM
roll the dice, pussy
9/13/2012 7:11:56 AM
yeah it's pretty bad. thought i just stubbed it on the leg of my coffee table, didn't think much of the crack/pop I heard (thought it was just like cracking a knuckle), but this morning it's jacked upvery purple and black and upon further examination, i can actually separate the bone slightly when I wiggle my toe with my fingers

Sounds like an MD should check it out...

i snagged mine on a piece of molding around a door frame back in high school. the toe was sticking out to the side about 30 degrees from where it should have been. they x-rayed it and an orthopedic doctor numbed it up and set it back kinda where it was supposed to be. i had to wear one of those velcro shoes for a few days and i just taped it to the toe beside it for a couple months i think.i'd probably get it checked out. if it doesn't heal up right it could give you serious pain in the future. mine still hurts from time to time.

You could just roll the dice and keep it taped up for a month or two, but you can't go wrong getting it checked out.
9/13/2012 7:25:54 AM
yeah mine's a little cockeyed too. and about twice the size of the other onemy reasoning behind not getting it looked at was "what the heck can really be done?" are they going to reset it and put a tiny little cast or 1/2" splint on it
9/13/2012 7:27:54 AM
the doc numbed it up and then grabbed hold with both hands. he counted to 3 and snatched the shit out of it straight up. i heard it pop back into place. then he held it next to the toe beside it while the nurse taped them together with a little gauze between them. the biggest thing for me was getting that shoe from them. without the shoe, putting any weight on that foot resulted in intense pain.if you've got decent insurance and it's not gonna be $texas, i'd go to the doctor. if nothing else they'll give you some pain meds to help.[Edited on September 13, 2012 at 7:35 AM. Have it x-rayed in case it needs to be set; you don't want a jacked up toe to heal as is. It could lead to pain and problems down the road. Then the doc will likely just have you tape it to another toe for a week or so, take it easy, and maybe wear different shoes.

My mom broke her pinky toe, didn't get it checked out by a doctor, and it healed all fucked up and she ended up having to get surgery done on it. So I'd go to a doctor now to get a splint on it and avoid surgery.

Two standing orders in this platoon. One, take good care of your feet.

^^^Best post in the thread so far! Aside from the good advice to go see a doctor.

Depends on the break. I used to break my pinky toes all the time when I played sports. Painful as shit. You can probably get away with just taping it to the toe right next to it and trying to stay off of it as much as possible. The only time I went to the doctor for a broken toe that's all they did. Taped it up and gave me a boot to wear for like 2 weeks.[Edited on September 13, 2012 at 12:58 PM. Reason : a]

i have broken both pinky toes too many times to count always due to me stubbing it on a table/chair leg or something else in the way. it gets black and purple around the base, it hurts for a week, the bruises fade, and BAM you're back to normal. the doctor will tell you it's broken, he'll tape the pinky toe to the toe beside it to keep it "stable" and send you home feeling like a pussy for going to the doctor with a broken pinky toe.

I'd tape that bad boy to the toe next to it and let it heal. that's just me though.
9/13/2012 8:27:21 PM
that raised part, left of center, is where I can pry the two slivers of bone apartit's kind of gruesome
9/13/2012 8:35:05 PM
as previously posted...tape it to the next toe.pad your shoe on the right side.the doctor isnt going to do shit for you because you cant cast your toes.

i probably should snip it offwhat's the use of a pinky toe anyways? evolution completely forgot to wipe it out

you lose more than one toe on a foot and it fucks your balance up mightily

I shattered one of my pinky toes with a 5lb sledge hammer when I was younger; was driving rebar into a retaining wall; had been working all day and was exhausted, trying to hurry up. I took a full over-the-head swing and completely missed, wearing mesh-top athletic shoes. My toe was like a wine glass after a Jewish wedding. Hurt like a bitch but finished up for the day and decided to go slalom skiing afterward...didn't realize the severity of it until I almost couldn't get my foot out of the binder because it had swollen so big. Went to the doctor and all they did was splint and wrap it and give me an ibuprofen scriptMoral of the story: you'll be fine. splint and wrap it and take ibuprofen, save yourself the cash
