I was curious as to what the new trend is these days. With the widespread availability of streaming services, do a lot of people still pay for digital cable on top of internets? I'm thinking that's an extra 50 dollars a month i can pocket, since i can just watch all my shows online these days. It's nice to have the flexibility of popping on the tube when you're bored to check out whats on tv, but hey cash is king.

I've got internet service but I still pay for DirecTV. I honestly could do without the DirecTV, I don't watch it that much. I mainly get DVDs from Netflix.

Heck if you can do without the broadcast networks then get interweb connectiononly and get a Roku box.

the only thing i watch on cable is hockey and theres no hockey during the summer (or this winter lol) so i cancelled it a few months ago. havent missed it. for me theres really nothing that i want on cable, but if you want it at a better price you can get one by cancelling. call them up and cancel your tv service. they'll offer you a slighty better deal to stay. ask them to cancel it anyways. you'll get a callback in a couple days with a much better offer and at that point you can negotiate for what you want or just leave it if they cant give it to you.

I think giving up cable is a great way to save cash, but I advise you to do something to translate that fifty saved dollars into something beneficial... If you pocket the fifty bucks and turn around and spend it on random junk or booze, then you would probably have been better off with the cable.

if you get twc broadband you get basic cable for free.

thats not always true and i wouldnt rely on it. it used to be they had to send someone out to filter those channels so you didnt get them and that was more expensive than just letting you have it. Now with the newer digital equipment they can just shut it off w/out physical intervention further up the line. right now i have internet but not tv service and i can only get the free to air stations.

I'm getting Dish installed today, but TWC has 20 Mbps Internet by itself for 45/mo. The whole thing works out to about 85 together.

We have internet. No TV other than what comes on over the bunny ears. Only time it sucks is during football season but that's what bars are for.

in my parents' neighborhood in CLT, if you have roadrunner internet you also have basic cable. It's not a "bundle" of any kind, it's just that they told them they don't offer internet without TV. The price isn't bad for what they get though. If they had gotten a really high price I would have pushed them to complain and say they don't want to "pay" for TV (ie them saying it's "free" or "built-in"). But I want to say they pay like $39.99 for 12Mbs with the basic cable included or something. Not terrible and it's been that way for several years. (I think the internet started at 6 back then and they have bumped them up).

We did it for about two years with netflix on the xbox but had to get directv when russell wilson got drafted when we were tired of watching shitty internet streams for football
