“Better public schools, better roads, better jobs and a better environment.”

It's a simple formula.

The Dems have had this opportunity for almost 8 years now, and they haven't done it. Instead, they've run their own crazies, banking on the hope that folks will choose their crazies over the GOP crazies

Also, a lot of Republicans aren't like "wow, this R candidate is crazy, I will vote for a more rational D instead", they just straight ticket vote for the crazy R because "muh team"

If the Bernie bros, who I mostly agree with, had won in 2016, I could see democrats drifting to be anti NATO, pro Putin antivax too

They would also be pro women’s rights, gay rights, union

I’m a technocratic Pete Buttigieg democrat now

Pete/aoc is My dream ticket q

I'm for technocracy as well. Tired of being governed by literal fools of any purported ideology. The bigger problem is the electorate is comprised of fools who like other fools who talk down to their level. Trump is an expert saying dumb shit Joe Blow Redneck agrees with.

Isn't that how it really works though, de facto? Politicians delegate power to the agencies and departments, and they write a ton of the actual rules and laws that are important in action.

Corporations and huge companies get there guys/lobbyists into policy positions for the actually important issues. Sure some of the big stuff we get the illusion of it being done by Congress itself, but most of the technical parts of big bills are written by the "technocratic" influence of people who are actually deeply involved in industry.

Did you pay any attention to the previous administration? There was zero respect for institutional knowledge or technical expertise. Hunches and horse medication carried more weight than scientific rigor, especially if you throw in a little flattery. Another 4 years of an even more extreme version of that (without concerns about future elections) might be unrecoverable.

I'm not talking about Trump, that's an exception. I mean in general, how our system works. Biden, Obama, Bush, whatever. There are thousands of different sectors and policy areas being covered.

Functionally, a lot of the policy makers come from the actual companies and whatever. Depending on the president, they may come and go as lobbyists and working for the administration. Plus as I said, the leeway the actual agencies and departments get on managing the specifics of most of the day to day policy.

You don't need to tell me that Trump would be bad for our institutions, what I'm describing is exactly what he's gonna help tear apart. You were discussing the issue in general, one guy said Pete/AOC, whatever. That's what I was responding to.

https://www.wral.com/story/trump-leads-in-nc-as-biden-struggles-with-younger-voters-wral-news-poll-shows/21323732/

Trump only has 50% in nc, considering he’s been underperforming and robinson is polling behind for governor, that’s kind of a good sign for nc to flip

https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/14/politics/kfile-gop-nominee-north-carolina-public-schools-michele-morrow-executing-democrats/index.html

Quote :
"Michele Morrow, a conservative activist who last week upset the incumbent Superintendent of Public Instruction in North Carolina's Republican primary, expressed support in 2020 for the televised execution of former President Barack Obama and suggested killing then-President-elect Joe Biden.

In other comments on social media between 2019 and 2021... Morrow made disturbing suggestions about executing prominent Democrats for treason, including Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Hillary Clinton, Sen. Chuck Schumer and other prominent people such as Anthony Fauci and Bill Gates."

She seems nice.

^^^

lol

In 1984 Rufus Edmisten was running for NC governor and said that he was sick of barbecue because he had eaten it so much on the campaign. It went as viral as things could go in 1984. He wasn't elected.

This dude says he hates basketball and is running for governor in NC. Ordinarily I'd say, "Good luck with that." but Republicans are smitten with the crazy extremists and this is the worst timeline so he'll probably win.

https://avlwatchdog.org/after-visiting-ukraine-edwards-calls-putin-a-card-carrying-kgb-marxist-murderer/

Quote :
" U.S. Rep. Chuck Edwards returned from an unannounced visit to Ukraine over the weekend and issued what appeared to be a blistering criticism of Republican colleagues who are blocking military aid to the embattled country invaded by Russia two years ago.

“Our nation can no longer allow itself to fall prey to Putin’s propaganda about this war,” Edwards said, referring to the Russian president Vladimir Putin as “a card-carrying KGB Marxist murderer with no regard for human life.”

“Now is not the time for America to hide in isolationism, as Putin is trying to manipulate us to do,” the Hendersonville Republican said in his strongest words to date about the conflict. "

Credit where it is due. Ol’ Chuckle Fuck Edwards is about to position himself in the vanguard of the anti-Putin GOP caucus. So interesting, and refreshing, given NC-11’s history with Russo-philes. I hope this is an indicator that many in the House GOP are sobering up regarding Ukraine/Putin.
