What movies or TV shows that seem to have almost universal acclaim do you have a less popular opinion on?

A couple of mine-

The Dark Knight. While I think it's a decent movie, I find it vastly overrated, and I think the climax is fucking horrible.

Firefly- it was a pretty entertaining show, but not worth the fuss made over it and it's cancellation

Arrested Development- never did much for me

What have you got?

I don't know if these shows have universal acclaim, but they've certainly got the awards:

24 - never really like the whole pulling hard to get information conveniently from all over the place
Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang - I really can't stand these shows
House of Cards - Everything in this show is well done, but the plot ruins it for me

I agree with the Dark Knight being overrated, I actually liked Dark Knight Rises slightly more.

Also never understood why Return of the King is rated so highly, its easily the worst of the LOTR trilogy.

The Godfather sucks.

Never really liked House. I prefer Hugh Laurie in comedic roles.

Then again I never really got into any shows that are based around hospitals.

Napoleon Dynamite, all the LOTR, Borat, some more that I can't remember.

As far as tv, besides the ones that it's cool to hate (big band theory, modern family), I've never really liked breaking bad. I just don't see what's so great about it. I forced myself to watch 3 seasons of it, hoping to see why it got all the acclaim, but its just not for me.

Pulp Fiction. I didn't really grasp what was going on, and had a hard time following along. I just muscled through it because it was so highly revered.

I loved the dark knight the first time I saw it, but I have watched it a couple of times since and it's seemed longer and slower every time.

I thought the Royal Tenenbaums was boring as hell. In fact I find a lot of Wes Anderson's stuff boring. I almost always love the trailers and find them hilarious, but the same thing stretched over a whole movie can't hold my attention.

I never cared for The Office all that much.

yeah the dark knight is pretty plot holey and convoluted. and the unflinchingly gritty tone is not my favorite.

true blood seems pretty hated/ignored but I thought it's pretty great, sans two kind of meh seasons.

I "secretly" don't like Eddie Murphy's work. Like, none of it from ever.

And everybody loves him. I don't think I've interacted with someone for any period of time and not had them eventually tell me about their favorite Eddie Murphy film.

Fuck Eddie Murphy.

^^^^^^The final season of Breaking Bad was extremely disappointing. ***Mild spoilers*** To default to big bad nazi supervillains and to give Walt such an easy and redemptive out after such a complex, nuanced, painful ride was really lame.

I could take or leave Star Wars movies. all of them. The new ones are obviously worse, and I can certainly appreciate the technical aspects of the original ones. but i was never really into them.

I fucking hated this movie. It just goes on and on. It wasn't that it was a particularly bad movie, just an excruciatingly long one. And I expected 3 or 4 different climaxes to be the end, but then it kept going.

Also, I hated "The Anchorman 2."

I don't care for Seinfeld, either.

Umm, what? I don't want to get too spoiler-y in this thread, but the nazis were hardly "big bad supervillains" and I definitely don't think Walter was redeemed by how the series concluded. They were inferior to Gus Fring as far as bad guys go, but they weren't any worse than Tuco or the assassin twins.

I didn't care for the original Iron Man. RDJ does a great job as Tony Stark, but I never get invested in the character.

**MUCH BREAKING BAD SPOILERS**

I just thought the show was too good to resort to a completely-evil-nearly-indestructible-nazis-kick-the-dog-so-our-previously-irredeemable-hero-can-bring-them-down-and-die-happy trope.

Super Troopers does its best impression of a bad '80s comedy (aka Policy Academy) but lacks anything that makes it remotely funny. I have no idea what people think is funny in this movie.

Breaking Bad or The Wire, etc might be overrated given the critical acclaim they got.

But is Breaking Bad not one of the top 10 shows to air on television in the least 10 years? Was The Wire not one of the best shows that aired between 2000 and 2010?

I'm not attempting to convince anyone that they are great shows just because I like them and think they are good, but overrated doesn't mean bad. Overrated just means it might not be as good as the hype. And if there is an insane amount of hype (and I'd argue any media gets more criticism or hype nowadays with more means of criticism ie internet, etc), it's often hard for even great media to live up to it for everyone.

Perhaps this is just a statement on the premise of the thread, in that just because something gets "universal acclaim" doesn't mean it's universally loved. But that maybe it's still very good.

***SPOILERS***

you don't need to use spoiler tags for a show that isn't even on the air anymore. if people haven't seen it, it's their own damn fault.

***END SPOILERS***

Look, I could never get into Breaking Bad. It just wasn't enjoyable for me to sit down and watch. I don't know why, it just wasn't. Maybe I would have actually stayed with it if I started watching it when it first aired, but I didn't start until 3 or so seasons had passed and everyone had anointed it the greatest show ever. My expectations were sky high and it didn't come close to that for me.

Now as for the Matrix. I thought the plot was retarded. Also, while the whole bullet time was pretty exciting from a technical standpoint, I pretty much hate wire fu so the fight scenes don't appeal to me at all. Also it's Keanu Reeves, so the acting isn't going to make up for anything else.

Do you mean you didn't watch Season 1 Episode 1 until the show had already aired a few seasons? Or for some dumb reason did you start watching the show a few seasons in with no context for what had happened previously?

I'll second (or third?) Napoleon Dynamite not being that good.

I never could get into 30 Rock. When I watched it, I didn't necessarily think it was bad. It just didn't make me wanna watch it every week or anything. I never felt compelled to catch up on the series, or make sure to watch it every week.

Community is another one...I enjoyed season 1. But it just got old to me. And I never bothered to finish the series. Probably saw about ~1.5 seasons. I know everybody tends to agree the show got pretty shitty towards the end when NBC was ready to pull it. But even before that, I just didn't get the love affair with the show. It was ok, and I even enjoyed parts of it. But I didn't really find it be amazing like a lot of others did.
