Not sure if you'd be into it, but I'm about half-way through this. It's not so much "spooky" as it is is creepy and suspenseful.

Short stories. True Detective guys said this was one of the books that helped inspire the mythos of season 1. Creepy as hell.

Ok so I'm working on House of Leaves currently, but it is going rather slowly because I can't really read it in bed which is when I do most of my reading.

So Ken Follett - not a spooky writer. Should I delve into his work? Looks pretty respectable.

Don't really know if this'd be what you're looking for, but I highly recommend Perdido Street Station by China MiƩville. It's not at all straight horror, but it's a good mix of sci-fi, horror, and fantasy.
