Blondes Have More Fun

submitted by nasteeerr on Monday, November 27 2000 at 11:12 AM

. . . merely a worn out phrase in today's society . . . or a candidate for thought? Who initially voiced this phase: a jealous brunette, a HOT blonde. a observing male?

  • Well I feel I am a perfect candidate for examining this theory. Only a short while ago I was a blonde (check my photo gallery if you don't believe me), for about four to five years if I am counting correctly. Of course not a natural, but I was not noticeably fake either. People still tend to question me about what happened to the blonde that once "grew" from my scalp.

  • My answer to the lingering question . . . DO BLONDES HAVE MORE FUN? . . . is quite to the point: As a blonde I did have more fun. I had more guys chasing me, I got in more trouble, I lived on the wild side! Look at Britney Spears, she seems to be having fun as a blonde: making money, having guys drool over her long locks . . . and her hair is not even real.

  • After years of fun, I guess I have settled down into my "brunette roots". With my brunette hair I SEE myself as more of an intellect, far from my past as the blonde wild child.

  • Going blonde just takes too much time. Every month having to refresh you roots gets old. I just don't think the fun is worth it.

  • But does the phrase hold true for guys? DO BLONDE GUYS HAVE MORE FUN? Personally I like my MEN brunette!

"And now for the junk in the center (this). We at The Wolf Web want to keep everyone informed of any news that pertains to NCSU students. The problem is that we don't have the time (or the writing ability) to accomplish this on our on. We are gonna leave that to you guys. See the "submit story" link at the top right of this box? You can submit a story that will be reviewed by our editors and possibly posted to the front page. There will be probably 4-5 stories posted to the front page on an average day."

I would hardly call this topic news or pertinent to most NCSU students.

I think the main page works better if it's reserved for important news stories.

There's absolutely nothing that separates the "Blondes Have More Fun" thread from any other thread posted in The Lounge. I feel that putting posts like this in the News Story section dillutes the line between the purpose of the front page and the other boards.

If I remember correctly, I think the phrase originated back in the 40s/50s. It was a marketing slogan for a hair-dye company. Sorry, I don't have more details than that, but I don't feel like looking around. Go to google if you really want to know for sure, i guess.

notice how this place is very very lax?

We will post things that we think people will have interest in, make people think perhaps. If you aren't pleased with the quality of the stories on the frontpage, then submit your own.

I think people are missing the point of the front page topics. For those of you who think some of the stories are irrelevent, submit what you want to share with everyone that you deem "important". I think nasteeer's topic is enlightening and we need more random, yet well argued ideas.

If you want important information, let my suggest a subscription to the New York Times or USA Today.

My point is that if stories like this are going to go on the front page, how is the front page any different from the The Lounge?

I think the front page is better served if it is reserved for new stories and up-to-minute information that is important to readers.

I realize that this is a private page and the operators can do whatever the want with it, but I think it is in the best interest of all the visitors to go with what was original promised with the front page.

It's all a matter of opinion. To one person, it may be interesting, to another, just a waste of space. No one is forcing anyone to read anything, if you read the title and it doesn't interest you, scroll on by it. As for the difference between the front page and the lounge, pointless replies don't clutter the headlines. A problem has arisen concerning people who reply to every message with nothing good to say. This is one way to have educated topics without the bull shit.

bartleby, I'm not really directing this towards you. We're still working on a system of checks and balances (the editors will vote what goes up based on importance or things we think people will like; soon I hope.) concerning the front page topics. Once everything is established, we'll be able to post more informative topics. We're trying to get a blend of news and other areas of interest and since the "new" page is less than a week old, it'll take a few weeks to find a balance that will appeal to everyone who comes here.

Here's my suggestion:

* Keep the front page for news and important messages.

* Add another section on the frontpage for editorials. There seems to be enough opinionated people on the board to get at least five people who would be willing to each write a weekly column. For each day of the week, there would be a person that could write a weekly column. If there's a lot of people interested in doing this, you could have two columns per day or set aside one day a week for one-time columnists.

well, in response to the actual intent of Nas tee err's post....

I'm strawberry-blonde, which falls into a more rare natural hair color compared to most people. I've had my share of fun and all, but the dark haired guys always seem to have the attention of the ladies, hence the "tall, DARK, and handsome" phrase commonly associated with feminine descriptions of the "ideal" man. All in all, fun associated with hair color is just a theoretical idea, which ideally shouldn't be a basis for perception of how much fun/beauty someone holds. *Superficial* people shouldn't have any fun if you ask me, and even though looks hold a level of importance, genuine attraction should be based on what's beneath the surface of appearance. But as a closing remark, "Beauty is determined in the eye of the beholder"
