Help bring Pearl Jam to NCSU

submitted by eclipse824 on Thursday, September 9 2004 at 2:03 PM

WKNC, Youth Voice and Voters Project, NCSU Student Government, and a number of other student and community groups are coming together to put on a large-scale voter registration event in Raleigh, on or near NCSU campus, on October 7th, 2004, the day before voter registration ends in North Carolina.

This petition is to gather support for our event, to convey that support to the band Pearl Jam who will be passing through the area on that date but is not currently booked, and hopefully to convince them to play for us. We are confident that with enough support, we will be able to convince the band and make this happen. (note: this is a new petition with a slightly different message, so if you signed the old one, please sign this one as well.)

Please give your support for our voter regstration and education efforts by signing this petition and forwarding it as widely as possible. WKNC and the rest of the coalition will also have a number of other voter registration and education events coming up, so stay tuned for the facts.

And make sure to register to vote before October 8th.

If you're going to go after anti-Bush bands, at least make it a good one, plzkthx.

I like my music and my politics to remain separate (kinda ironic, considering some of the stuff I listen to).

I would say hell yes, but I know that a good chunk of the show is going to be spent talking about a political matter that I'm sick of quite frankly. I dont support Kerry or Bush. Maybe if Eddie hadn't sold out Nader?

i saw them in charlotte in 2000 and it was great.

haven't listened to quite so much pearl jam since then though. its not that i don't like their new stuff, i just got burnt out and exposed myself to a lot of different music around that time.

Please... let's pick a biased group. If this was simply to get people to vote for reguardless of their political affiliation, then we would pick a group that isn't so biased and outspoken. This is ridiculous; trying to swing votes by bringing a band that has bashed a picture of our president with a microphone stand on stage. That is disrespect to our country.

It's disrespectful to Bush, not to our country...

For some of us, he isn't a very good represenative of us anyway.

It's an individual decision, but rather than have one biased band come we should try to have many, representing a wide variety of ideas and beliefs, it's going to be hard to find someone that is completely unbiased.

If this is about registering to vote...we should have many people come and perform...thats just how I feel.

Graham, the important thing is that its going to bring people out, whether they agree or not, people will register to vote, and honestly thats what we need right now, is a large group of voters our age. It's crucial that we get our age group to vote, and speak out. Our ideas matter, we need people to see this...

"There are a number of large groups putting on large-scale voter registration and education events across the country this fall, especially in so-called battleground states. However, none of those groups has chosen Raleigh or the Triangle for their events. That is why a coalition of student and community groups in the area are coming together to put on a large-scale voter registration event in Raleigh, on or near the campus of NC State University, on October 7th, 2004, the day before voter registration ends in North Carolina."

those groups = plural

it should read, "none of those groups have chosen"

JTHelms, you should learn grammar before you attack mine.

None is the subject of that clause. "None" is a contraction or "Not One". "those groups" is part of a prepostitional phrase, set off by the preposition "of". "Not one" is singular as is the verb "has." Thus, "has" is the correct verb form for that sentence.

Bad news on this though... The band said no. Thanks to everyone for trying. I'll let you know as our other stuff comes together
