We have a President Elect! (for the week)

submitted by CrazyJ on Monday, November 27 2000 at 12:44 AM

Looks like ol' Cuntherine Whorris has proclaimed GW Bush the winner of the bitterly disputed presidential election. "I hereby declare Governor George W. Bush the winner of Florida's 25 electoral votes for the president of the United States," Whorris screeched. Bush won by 537 votes. This was not counting the hand recounts from Palm Beach County or Miami Dade county. The Broward County recount was the only one of the hand counts that was tabulated into the final outcome. The Democraps are expected to challenge the decision with more and more and more and more litigation.

When will the legal action stop? Will either party every give up? Why can't we just keep Bill for another 8 years?

i am personally tired of the whining.......while i voted for "Dubya" i would be embarrassed by the "sore loser" attitude if the roles were reversed.........additionally, would things really be that different under one than the other.....i really dont think so...

if GW does become our nations president.....
1) 4 years of great jokes on the late shows

It doesn't matter who wins, they're both going to catch alota crap for at least the first year they are in office. And I wouldn't expect either of them to serve a second term either. So if this article is true then let Bush get in there, do his 4 years of jerking around, looking like an uneducated fool, embarrassing the US, and not doing anything worthwhile, and we'll have another president (hopefully)...

Yeah, and after 2 years of Bush the Democrats will take control of Congress. We will also have a different President in 4 years. Also, I think Miami-Dade blew it when they decided not to recount after their sample added 157 Gore votes. As it stands, Bush is the winner and the Republican party will be the real losers in the long term. Whoever wins this election will come out with alot of public resentment, and won't be able to get anything done.

I think the person that will come out with the most resentment is he who does not lose with nobility. Appeal after appeal... it goes on and on.

I just want a president.

Bush is going to have an easier time as president than Gore because:

1) The Republicans know who Gore is and what he is about.
2) The Democrats don't know who Bush is nor what he is about.
3) Al Gore can't, as it was posted above, "lose with nobility."

Gore has spent his entire life and training trying to become the president. What is he going to do now? Who would honestly vote for him in four years? Gore has been spending too much time with Clinton. He's going to try and win by any and all means necessary, as the last three weeks has shown.

OH GOSH....NO ONE IS WHINING...

it is the law, there are lawsuits that were filed by both sides...i think the whining is on both sides. Right now instead of trying to haggle with democrats, think about the future of our country. The economy is preparing for a down-turn, we have a brewing situation in the middle east. Let the lawyers do their job....etc

This whole thing is a bunch of crap, the democrats lost all four times they were counted and that was even after they
wrongfully threw out over 1500 overseas ballots. Gore says he wants a "full and accurate count" than he should have
recounted the state, not just the few democratic counties in florida. They caught democrats leaving the hand counting
booth with republican ballots in their coat pockets for goodness sake. what other proof do you need that they will do
anything to cheat their way into the presidency. They are a bunch of liars, just like clinton, could they be any more obvious??
They lost, give up, you are just making fools of yourselves!!

I agree with kdawg's comment that Bush will have an easier time as president than Gore because, as the old saying goes, "ignorance is bliss..."
Therefore, no matter how bad Bush screws up, he'll just think he's doing what's best for the US and have a happy fun time as prez.
Not that I care who wins, I didn't vote for either of them...(but I sure as hell HATE Bush)

If you voted for Nader and you were originally going to vote for Gore, then yes, that would be a vote for Bush.

Nader also appealed to some Bush voters as well, so I'm sure that he stole a bit of votes from dubya too.

A very wise man last night enlightened me to the fact that the President has degenerated into little more than a figurehead now.

He has the power of the Veto, and Executive powers over the military.

His informal powers is where the president has always had the most effect. As the political party leader (whichever he may belong to), as diplomat in foreign affairs, and as the sculptor of domestic policies. (Again, may I point out that the Congress is solely responsible for the laws we have in this country).

In either case, Bush or Gore, the reason that they created Aides is because some smart fellow figured out that the president couldn't handle everything at once.

I'm confident in either vice president (sometimes I wish that they had run for president instead of their presidential candidate running mates).

I'm confident that the American people know whats best for them, and will elect the people that really exercise power, their senators and representatives.

It's a shame that Canada (sorry, BeckNCSU if I offend you) can have a higher turnout and have their election results completed in ONE day while the MODEL for international democracy (i.e., the USA) has to drag on a decision over who will succeed Clinton considering that neither man deserves to win the office. Maybe, it IS time for Clinton to serve a third term.
