BEIRUT (AP) — Laughing for the cameras, the Arab leaders appear nothing if not secure in their power, four longtime members of the Middle East coterie of rulers-for-life.

How times have changed. The photograph from an October 2010 Arab-African summit shows the leaders of Libya, Egypt, Yemen and Tunisia, all of them now deposed — and in one case dead — since the Arab Spring revolutions began sweeping through the Middle East last year.

In the photo, Libya's Moammar Gadhafi wears black sunglasses and distinctive robes, with his arms draped around Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen and Egypt's Hosni Mubarak, both of them grinning. To one side is Tunisia's Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, standing with his hands clasped, smiling and relaxed.

http://news.yahoo.com/2010-photo-encapsulates-mideast-transformation-140933463.html"

Viva la Revolution!

Just like how these guys are smiling in the picture and these guys who had no clue what was about to go down...

It's coming to a United States near you.

Looks like he can count on 3% of the vote in Prince George's County (46,927 registered republicans, closed primary, assuming all 1,500 are eligible republicans who aren't busy on Tuesday) If he doesn't win the state it will be clear evidence that there is a conspiracy to sabotage his campaign.

I swear on my own grave, GOP, if you do not give Ron Paul the nomination you will not only have the entire party walk out on you but you will trigger the second American Revolution. Well... you have the intellects and you have the brutes in all battles.

Right now the bruts don't have any leaders.

The leaders, who are the intellects, are still battling to expose the truth behind the corruption in this nation. By exposing the truth, I mean, trying to find all the key players responsible for the corruption of American politics.

Once we have found the names of the players, we will be able to merge with the brutes and give a head to the body of the Occupy movement.

It's beautiful.

Rand Paul has effectively single handedly blocked a bi-partisan bill to place yet more crippling economic sanctions on Iran, by demanding an amendment to prevent the White House using the legislation as an authorization to attack the country.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) wanted to immediately pass the sanctions bill by unanimous consent Tuesday. However, Paul intervened and blocked it, in order to ensure that unauthorized use of military force against Iran does not transpire.

Paul’s one sentence amendment reads: “To clarify that nothing in the Act shall be construed as a declaration of war or an authorization of the use of force against Iran or Syria.”

Harry Reid is definitely "A player" for the other team. We know he's not the king or queen or bishop or rook or pawn... I would definitely name him a knight.

We covered this in another thread. Rand is not against the crippling sanctions, he is for them, he just wants to grandstand about war for a bit since they affect Iran. I'm not aware of any precedent case of a sanction being construed as a declaration of war (Although it might as well be an act of war, practically speaking), so it seems he's just knockin down strawmen for effect.

Stop over reacting. It's easy to point and laugh because the information is from the infowars site

The reason I posted the source was because that was my source. Just because someone is discredited in one area, it doesn't mean 100% of the stuff they say is 100% false. They could be 20% of the time true, 80% of the time false. There are only a few people who are wrong 100% of the time.

Needless to say, the quote I want to focus on is:

"Paul’s one sentence amendment reads: “To clarify that nothing in the Act shall be construed as a declaration of war or an authorization of the use of force against Iran or Syria.”"

If that line was, indeed, the difference between pass and fail, it has huge implications.

The video proves he did propose the amendment, but I don't know if it's the key reason why the legislation failed. That part they could have made up, but in reality.... how far is it from the truth?

You don't understand how credibility works.

Now, seriously, tell me how often do you go to Infowars.com?

It wasn't the difference between pass and fail, it wasn't even voted on. It was slated to pass by unanimous consent (a shortcut by which Congress saves time on non-controversial legislation) until Paul stopped the bill using entirely procedural means. Now they have to actually vote on it. He's just grandstanding, there's nothing in the Bill that could be construed as a declaration of war, it's a sanction.

Let me stress this: Paul might as well tack his amendment on the next bill that renames a Post Office in Hawaii, it would be just as applicable and relevant. He's grandstanding so his fans can eat it up because they're completely blind to the fact that he, too, is a politician and does this sort of thing.

I don't go to infowars the majority of their time because of their reputation.

I always listen to everything everyone says because the one time they are right, and I'm not listening, then shame on me.

But after I'm done listening, it is up to me to decide if I want to believe some of it, all of it, or none of it.

You have no way of knowing they're right if you're fact-checking them against other sites of questionable credibility. You have no way of knowing those other sites are right if you're fact-checking them against Infowars.

If you have ever opened up Infowars in earnest expectation of getting accurate, factual information then you have 0 credibility, sorry. Infowars makes the MSM look like the gospel truth. Because allowing the amendment will likely lead to the bill requiring full legislative procedure which could take weeks. It's called expediency.

Why oppose such an amendment inserted into a bill renaming a Post Office that would otherwise pass unanimously?

Congress isn't a fucking a playground, I'm not paying those congressmen to waste their time to give Paul opportunities to demagogue against imaginary things for the sake of his poll numbers.

Point me to a single case in history of a sanction being construed as a declaration of war, then I'll acknowledge he's doing something useful. Otherwise it's just grandstanding.

Why would it "likely" take weeks? It either takes a long time due to a disagreement, or it doesn't. If there IS a disagreement, then this is a serious issue and it deserves the extra time.

Because the rules of congress dictate procedures regardless of whether or not there is disagreement. They can go for cloture, which will be an immediate vote, or can let it be "considered" which means prescribed debate timelines and committees, etc.

Reid will probably go for cloture, but all it's going to accomplish is encourage Paul to hold up uncontroversial bills with his soapboxing over, and over, and over again. I'm not a huge fan of Reid, but I'm sorry that he has to preside over a Senate with children like Paul in it.

The point of the fable wasn't that the townspeople were supposed to trust the boy every time he cried wolf, just in case he was right one day. It was that the boy shouldn't have fucked around spreading misinformation and destroying his credibility.

The belief is "Ron Paul has a small number of followers, of which the same followers attend all of his events"

Now I joke: Interesting how 1,200 Maryland followers divided themselves into 4 and flew to Wisconsin in less than 24 hours."

Now the only way for 1200 to form 5200 is by cut them into 4 people each.
