"The Carolina Hurricanes, in conjunction with AAA, are pleased to offer special fan travel packages for the 2010 Compuware/NHL Premiere™ in Helsinki, Finland. The Hurricanes will take on the Minnesota Wild at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland, on Thursday, Oct. 7 and Friday, Oct. 8. Only 50 packages have been reserved, so fans are encouraged to act quickly to take advantage of the offer!
The travel package has a total cost of $2,194 per person, plus the cost of game tickets. It includes:

•?Roundtrip airfare from Raleigh-Durham to Helsinki, Finland
•?Roundtrip airport to hotel transfers

They only reserved 50? Unless I'm vastly overestimating how many people are hyped for this, those will be sold out almost immediately.

^I felt the same way, but there's always gonna be more "OH I'M DEFINITELY GOING" hype than people who actually go. I do they think they undershot it with 50 though, that should be gone by the end of the week if not sooner.

If I go, it won't be on that official package. I'd much rather do what I want and miss the official LUNCHES AND PRACTICES crap, and also be able to leave out of Helsinki and see some other sites in Europe before coming back.

^ agree on the official package being a bit overloaded, i'd do exactly the same thing and visit some other part of europe. i'm trying to figure out why the land-only option wouldn't include tickets.

i was about 50/50 on the idea until i saw the ticket prices, they're a bit steep considering the other expenses involved and the fact that helsinki is apparently not the cheapest city to hang out in anyway

of course the only sporting event i have been to in europe was the first "super bowl" of the central european (american) football league, only the best football game EVAR, and we got in for i think 100 serbian fun-bucks which i think is like $1.75

hmmm... with all the $$$ i'd spend elsewhere while in Finland, I'd be close to $3k, which is a bit much.

also, I'm willing to bet the "special NHL souvenir" is a fucking towel or something.

The Helsinki package put together by AAA is super bloated. Sure you get a lot of perks by going through them (organized city tour, team luncheon, practice access, etc) but I'm not sure it justifies the price difference.

I just priced the trip out on my own and came out much cheaper:

Round trip airfare + 4 nights stay in Dbl Occupancy room @ Radisson Blu = $1298/person

Lower Level Tickets - $449 (169eur/game x 2 games)
Upper Level Tickets - $263 (99eur/game x 2 games)

The hotel/airfare is from expedia and I factored in 2 people on the trip
Tickets are on sale at lippu.fi

[Edited on March 25, 2010 at 5:28 PM. Reason : expedia =/= priceline]

I wonder if the Canes will meltdown in the third period while simultaneously the Caps come alive.

I actually like the Airiel Down song. Their Wolfpack one sucked ass, but I like the 'Canes one.

I don't know how we took the season series against the soon to be President's Trophy winners, but it pleases me.

LaRose has been solid since returning from injury. Great move in the SO.

I get excited each time they win and then remember we just cost ourselves even more of a shot at a better pick. With Rutuu, Ward and Gleason all out and Cullen, Corvo, Wallin, etc. gone I'm amazed we keep winning.

Peters reassigned to Albany. Cam is ready to go and will be the backup tonight; will start in Atlanta on Monday night.

Excited to see him back but I really hope they ain't rushing things.

I was hoping they would let him rest and heal up. There really is no reason to play him anymore this season.

The River Rats will probably be happy to have Peters back though.

I must say, the point about making sure he can play in case he needs surgery is a good one. I'm still nervous about it, though.
