The student works at the Equine Facility where the horses are housed and is very familiar with the Mounted Unit. The student pushed on one of the horses hind end. When she did, the horse slightly kicked her on the upper thigh. The student was not injured. The horse had previously been injured in the same location that the student pushed on and the horse responded to the pain. "

Well, I do that. It's really gay. There's not enough room on the streets, and you will get clipped and cut off like mad. I'd rather take my chances running into a pedestrian than getting run over by a car. They need to revamp this place with some real bike lanes.

I take the path of least resistance, and it's impossible not to ride on the sidewalks at times, besides i'm more safe on a sidewalk because i'm not going to hit anyone (even if they think they're going to be hit they won't be) and car drivers are bad and don't even realize you're there half the time

^no, it's just hard for drivers to see bikers PERIOD,

i could be on the road the entire time and the driver still wouldn't even know i'm there...therefore i'm going to protect myself and be a defensive biker and use the sidewalk if i need to

i give drivers the least possible chance to hit/kill me, i would rather be in control then some oblivious driver who is too used to only looking for cars, maybe predestrians, and never bikers

even when i'm on the road and have the right of way i still have to stop and yield to drivers bc they don't even see me

Myself, I'm going to fall off my bike before I run into a pedestrian. But if I had a choice between getting hit by a car at 20+/- mph or hitting a person at considerably less, I'll take Coz's choice.

Wow. I hope I never hit someone, but if I do, I wouldn't mind it being you. You act like I'm out there trying to run people down. The point is that running into someone on a bike is a lot less likely to cause serious injury to either party than being run over by a car. I was hit by a bike last year while I was walking back from class, but the guy said he was sorry, and he was. Being uninjured, why would I care? We both went about our business.

Several weeks ago, I very nearly met me doom when I was traveling down the right side of the road at a high rate of speed, between the area where cars normally drive, and the curb. Someone opened the passenger side door (being dropped off, I assume) while the car was stopped, without looking first. I bet I had less than an inch of clearance (only because they finally saw me and did not open the door all the way), and my right pedal got ground up against the cement curb. Bikes are a great mode of transportation, but they get the royal shaft around here. At least on Centennial the streets are wide enough to ride on the side of the road most of the time.

That's what happens when you try to pass someone on the right in their lane of traffic. Don't blame other people because your erratic and illegal behavior nearly injured you and/or them.

Don't behave as if you have a bicycle lane when there is not one. Your hurry or smaller vehicle is no excuse for being reckless.

There's nothing reckless about it. It is reckless, however, for people to step out into the street without looking in either direction. I mean, that's one of the first things you're taught as a child. It's not my fault that people are too intent on their mindless cell phone banter to pay attention to their own environment. There is room on the sides of the road, albeit a poorly conditioned surface, provided people look where they are going. That's all I ask. It doesn't matter whether you're expecting someone to be coming or not. It's just common sense to look before stepping out into traffic. I'm not going to sit around sucking exhaust and wasting time just to protect the stupidly of others.

Exactly. So are you guys telling me it's illegal to pass stopped cars? A bike is not a damn car. I'd like to know home many drivers would rather have bikers ride in the center of the road slowing everything down. Surely, there must be some better solution to this problem.

- Can't ride on sidewalks
- Can't ride on side of road
- Can't ride in center of road
- Can't ride on grass

The answer is clear. I need a flying bike.

You make me think we need a driving test for bicycles. Guess what, bicycles are a road vehicle, subject to the rules of the road. If it's illegal to pass traffic on the curb, what makes you think it is legal to dart in and out of traffic in your lane? If you have a problem following this, you need to give up your bike and just walk.

I just hope the unfortunate person that hits you with their car in the midst of your idiocy doesn't get any car damage or face any lawsuits/charges.

Just to sort of rant a little more based on what was said here ^ :

I actually think there should be some sort of certification required to ride a bicycle on the street. When I see someone on a bike going against traffic it just makes me wonder what they're thinking. It's a moving vehicle on a public street, so you need to obey traffic laws. One of those laws is that you don't go the wrong way down a street.

"You supposed to ride against traffic y0."
