FUCK YEAH DAVOS

ONION KNIGHT 2012

CalledToArms's post on the last page:
Quote :
"Several new stills released today.

Some of the ones people are probably interested in (new characters):

Mel and Stannis:

Davos:

Brienne:

Great casting. My only complaint there is that Stannis doesn't look quite as menacing as one might expect but the actor has chops so I know he will do well."

I envisioned Brienne....uglier.

Melisandre isn't as hot as I would have pictured, either.

Stannis looks like John Kerry with an extra high widow's peak."

Agreed on both parts. Ser Davos looks spot on though.

Based on the still posted, I think that lines up with what I imagined of Brienne. I mean, I did a double take wondering who the scrawny dude was. Agreed with Melisandre, and I also concur that the shot of Stannis just doesn't look grim and menacing enough.

i havent read the books so i dont want spoilers, but rewatching the show made me think Lady Stark is a huge bitch for the way she treats Jon Snow. she should be pissed at her husband, not the kid.

i assume that gets addressed at some point and she is redeemed somehow...

But for rills, he's the living embodiment of her husband's infidelity. Why shouldn't she hate him?

b/c he did nothing wrong? why does she love her husband and hate him?

even if she is allowed to hate him, she still should not treat him like shit

i'm saying it isnt a big deal but it seems hard to say that she isnt a cold heated bia

I understand what you mean, but you're missing the significance of the overall character of Eddard Stark.

This man is the living embodiment of honor. He never makes the unethical choice because it is easy. This dude cuts the heads off of every motherfucker he passes judgement on. He yielded the throne of the fucking kingdom to Robert, even though he had the opportunity to take it for himself.

If you are Catelyn, you can't blame Ned. No one can. Even though they all believe he has a bastard that claims him as a father. So, therefore, Jon gets the punishment.

That is a link to it. Props to the Simpsons creators for putting some fine details in there like the three eyed crow (instead of Blinky the three eyed fish, heh). I'm surprised they were able to use the actual music from the show.

What thread do I post a concern about the amount of time it takes certain plots to develop if they closely map seasons to books?

So yesterday my mom (60, very Christian, can't stand movies with blood, etc.) called me and asked me if I'd heard of Game of Thrones. I said yeah, I loved the books and the TV show, but she wouldn't be able to handle it. She was like "I dunno, I'm halfway through the first book and I love it so far!"

The bluray extras are really neat... I love the history of the houses. The commentary is pretty good- they talk a lot about the differences between the book and series and why they had to make those changes (like Dany's eye color). I felt like I got my $35 preorder out of it even though I already had the season saved.

^^ The books are better than the show, but the show, so far, has been a very good adaptation (about as good as I could have realistically hoped someone would do). Season 1 was awesome.

i wonder what the residuals check GRRM gets for the books has bumped up to over the past two years

i'm sure he's always made some nice cash on the series, but after the tv show came out the first four books went back on the NYT bestseller list

My girlfriend just started getting involved with reading The Hunger Games, so I figured I would find a book series to get lost in as well.

Ehh, I've read all of ASOIAF and 2.5/3 Hunger Games books. ASOIAF has its problems--primarily the fact that it's fucking interminable and the fact that GRRM has probably never had sex in his life (spoiler alert: I know he's married), meaning that the portrayal of women in the books is almost as bad as it is in LOTR.

The Hunger Games, on the other hand, is like a middle-schooler's dramatic interpretation of Das Kapital. It's derivative, it's a shitty story, and it's poorly written. I've bought all of the books, and even though I'm so close to the end I can't make myself finish it. /complaining
