We played a team tonight who had a dude that played in the MLS for a few years, the professional indoor league when it existed (118 goals in 112 game) and has a cap for the US national team. And we were winning until about 10 minutes left when he came on and put in about 4 goals in a row at will.

My weekly injury was deflected ball from a header directly into my right eye...nice and red...

So does anyone want to join my outdoor team, or do I need to fold it? The guys who played and said they are returning are not cooperating with me. I wish they would sign up and sign up the people they know that said they wanted to play.

I'm in if you can get more players. I can check with one of my friends in Durham to see if he will play.

Do you play on their indoor team too? I know a couple guys I play with (Todd and Jimmy) are on Hibernian and Todd left as soon as our game was over to go finish up the game with Hibernian on the other field last night.

^^its co-ed. coed seems to be a little more relaxed and not quite as much chest-bumping, ridiculous amounts of testosterone flying around for no reason. a lot of the games ive seen in the men's open in tasl are crazy. i dont know how people can take rec league soccer so seriously. ITS REC LEAGUE lol

^easily the worst thing about playing in men's open. i don't really care that our team got smashed every week. it was the fact that some of my teammates tried to fight with other teams and would argue with the refs like it was their fault we were losing 6-0.

^^^ i will play co-ed for sure, but i would like to play in the men's open league as well. when i was playing in cali, they kept a pretty good handle on all the tough guy behavior with fines and suspensions and all that so surprisingly, there was none of that at all. the level of play was pretty high as well. i plan on playing indoor as well. with all this said, i would like to find a team that isn't worrying about having only 8 guys show up week in week out.

^We need some players on my Men's Open C team, if you want to play. The Open C level is no cakewalk. The teams are pretty good. My team has had 2 ex-college players on it both seasons. Sheperds House will be asked to go to B level and my guess is Sasquatch will return to C level since they got their ass kicked in B level. Playing against Sasquatch, and Flying Dog is not easy. They have solid teams. There are some no skills teams like Hibernian though!

j/k Hibernian is really good too.

Anyone wanna play on an outdoor team? I have about 16 guys that have said they would like to play, but they aren't taking the time to sign up. I need 14+ paid players by January 17, 2011. I really would like to have more twwers because they are the only ones who are ever polite enough to tell me they are quiting, or returning. That makes being team captain way easier.

[rant]It shouldn't take 2 e-mails and a phone call for someone to tell me they are quiting. The responses were great on the phone and in person, "Yeah I saw your e-mail. I think I am going to try to play on the week night." "I'm going to return. I've been busy with exams. I'll get on that right now though." "Yeah I got your e-mail. I am just lazy and haven't gotten around to registering."

Typing the word "quiting" and registering shouldn't be that hard. I'm sure I'll meet the deadline. I'm just a little frustrated with the guys from the pickup game who won't take the time to sign up even though they said they would. I have grabbed about 5 out of the free agent pool and don't want to disappoint them. The rest of the free agent pool is only willing to play in Open A and will not even respond even though their names have been in the free agent pool for multiple seasons and they haven't gotten an invite. They didn't listen when I said that half of the pool is strikers looking to play Open A and the odds of them getting picked are about 0%. [/rant]

^Yeah, but communication is just nice. The people who knew they were quiting could have typed, "QUITING" and then the send button instead of wait for me to call them, only to tell me how they read my e-mail. Some of the twwers even warned me half way through last season that they may not come back. That type of stuff is just nice to know, so you can plan around that.

I was one of your teammates who was guilty of this, but it wasn't because I was taking shit so seriously. It was because the fat fuck on Hibernian was being a dick to everyone and then tried to get in my face and punk me out after I fouled him. Losing is one thing and if we have it coming (which we always did), so be it, but I'll be damned if I'm going to put up with shit like that.

i'll speak for "the fat fuck" on our team.

it takes 2 to tango.

playing against you guys was dangerous. you've got a bunch of soccer tards out there sliding studs up all over the place because they've got their panties in a wad from being down by 4 goals. try and justify your childish antics however you want, but you were just as much to blame.

"the fat fuck" I'm sorry I didnt realize talking shit on the internet was the way adults handled themselves these days. If you've got something to say or better yet do let it happen on the field and leave it there.

Hiding behind your computer is much safer I know but really don't you loose your man card?

^^ In the interest of not derailing the thread I'll go ahead and say fair enough, although I personally never slide tackle nor do I take cheap shots. That's why I took offense when the guy got in my face for a mundane shoulder tackle foul. Up until that point I was having a good time joking around with some of your players, the 4-0 beatdown yall were putting on us not withstanding.

^ And I'm not sure if you're "the fat fuck" in question or not, but I'll assume you aren't because if you were, you would recall that you and I both got thrown out of the game after we shoved each other. I called him "fat fuck" and more as we were walking off the field, so no one is hiding behind their keyboard here.

No its me.

They whole point is your team was getting beat 6-0 and ther was no need for a ill-advised tackle like that with 10 min to go. I walked away laughing and havn't thought of it since the day but I can see you can't let it go.

GK signed! Now if those 2 guys from the pickup game would just take the time to register then everything would be ok I think! My team actually had the most signed up last time I talked to Andy, but we also had the least returning I think. Being at 9 before the new year isn't too bad.

Ugh, I had a guy quit because he feared our team wouldn't have enough players when only 4 returned and his friend couldn't play because of an injury. He signed with Raleigh FC. I have gotten to 14 now with a few more to come. They all sound like they are pretty good, so hopefully we can beat up the league this year!

From what I am hearing from Andy, the C division will probably look something like this...

Hibernian FC
Sporting Raleigh
Garden City Eagles
Newcastle
Royal Pains
FC Blizzard
Flying Dog
Raleigh FC
new team started by my ex-teammate Charles

I hope we have a 10th team, or don't have too many week night games because of the odd numbers. I work on the weeknights.

^I think I have an ok roster. We finally have a goalkeeper besides me, so that can only be an upgrade no matter what. We'll win some games this year. Last year our top forwards eithier quit because of injury, or work. We had no GK because he got a new job and the rest of the keepers were taken. I'm just ok at that. Our entire back line also got sick, or had their job get in the way. I have some former Open A players on my team and better defender and forwards from what I am hearing. There are new teams joining the league. We can beat them , Newcastle, and Royal Pains, if people would show up. This crowd will be showing up!

^^Yeah! You did well for us and got some goals. The one downer this year is Paul F. quit and Paul H. is returning. He randomly signed up the other day. I'll just have him play forward and midfield. Today I just signed a guy who has been playing since he was 4 and played half a season in college before dropping out to join the marines. He played in the TASL Men's Open A division in the past.

^Are you still going to play Coed A and Coed B plus maybe join my team? The new payment system in TASL is a first year player pays $110 dollars to join their first team, $85 to join a second team, and $5 to join all teams after that. A returning player (that would be you) pays $85 for their first team, $85 for their second team, and $5 to join all teams after that. If you are willing to pay the money to only play in 5 games then I guess you can join. Maybe you should wait though, to see if it is worth it.

^There is even more room for you now. I think I had 2 spots left, but I just had another guy tell me he can't play now. That is 2 that are on my roster that have to be taken off. Last year that happened 3 times and the GK was one of them. I am just praying that my GK doesn't pull something like that at the last minute again.

^ Ruckus FC will murder your team.

We played on Lee field, because apparently some guy came out and said that the Frat Ct fields were under some rental contract with some kid's league (not CASL) and basically ran us off.

He was nice enough about it, but that's the first I've heard about it and there's definitely no signs posted out there about it. He was on about "the condition of the field" which was already pretty goddamned poor, anyway, with a giant mud patch on the lower one that spanned about 40yds long and at least that wide.
