Depends on the type of job, how much it paid vs. unemployment, etc.

lol, I think most of you have never had to look for job to pay your bills, like really sit down and say "shit I have to find something soon or else I'm fucked"...I guarantee you taking the streets and banging bongos will not help

So you, a mid 20's white male with a college education, see nothing wrong with the fact that it took you 90 weeks to find a job?

i bet you don't know what the shit your talking about.

Quote :
"nope, but I was unemployed for close to 90 and I sure as shit didn't quit looking just to go cry to people about how hard it is to find a job"

and this pretty much confirms that. if you could live 90 weeks without a job, then you were never in "oh shit mode."

Given that this is a protest about corporate control of the government and not monster.com it's probably not relevant whether or not banging bongos will help these individuals find a job in whatever it is you think they should be doing

meh, we look at it as two different things...you guys see it as some way of expressing discontent to the government and I see it as a waste of time and distraction from you should really be doing

I think the effect of the current state of politics and the economy right now is very much a civil rights issue insofar as for basically the first time in the country's history, this generation is not going to find itself better off than the generation before it. If the country was founded on the idea that you have the right to work hard and be successful, then we've gotten away from that--no matter how hard you work now, you're almost certainly not going to be all that successful because that's the way the system is set up. It's not a coincidence.

Nobody today would be like "hey you black people, I know you think you're expressing your discontent with the government by sitting at this lunch counter but it's a waste of time when you've already got your own chairs over there"

It's nice to see that people who are so open minded that their brains fell out and people who hate mexicans so much that they can't stop screaming "they took our jobs" can finally unite in one giant mass of stupid against something they can't readily identify.

Really, where else can you see a women's studies major from Vasser side by side with someone who has a no longer relevant skillset protesting people who didn't cause their problems?

^^that more or less sums it up, hahaha

There is a legitimate element of wanting to divorce undue corporate influence from the political process, but those people seem to be the 1% of this so-called "99%", and even then, half of the people making that point are also spewing stupid, populist, protectionist, leftist bullshit, so they're being mostly drowned out and then largely and rightfully ignored, which is unfortunate.

He's more like mid-30s, but in his defense--and he won't offer this as an excuse, so I will for him--he only has one fucking limb, which limits him from a significant number of jobs that the rest of us could land.

haha, saps and I are probably listening to Phish and the Dead, respectively, while we're hating against these goddamn bongo-thumping retards.

I wonder how much money I could make selling posterboard, sharpies, and bottled water at one of these protests?

Would the irony be lost on them or would I get lynched?

I really doubt it's as exaggerated as you think, especially since the media loves to paint these protesters in a bad light.

What do you think people should do, other than protest?

You will not be able to stay home, brother.
You will not be able to plug in, turn on and cop out.
You will not be able to lose yourself on skag and skip,
Skip out for beer during commercials,
Because the revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be televised.
The revolution will not be brought to you by Xerox
In 4 parts without commercial interruptions.
The revolution will not show you pictures of Nixon
blowing a bugle and leading a charge by John
Mitchell, General Abrams and Spiro Agnew to eat
hog maws confiscated from a Harlem sanctuary.
The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be brought to you by the
Schaefer Award Theatre and will not star Natalie
Woods and Steve McQueen or Bullwinkle and Julia.
The revolution will not give your mouth sex appeal.
The revolution will not get rid of the nubs.
The revolution will not make you look five pounds
thinner, because the revolution will not be televised, Brother.

There will be no pictures of you and Willie May
pushing that shopping cart down the block on the dead run,
or trying to slide that color television into a stolen ambulance.
NBC will not be able predict the winner at 8:32
or report from 29 districts.
The revolution will not be televised.

There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
brothers in the instant replay.
There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down
brothers in the instant replay.
There will be no pictures of Whitney Young being
run out of Harlem on a rail with a brand new process.
There will be no slow motion or still life of Roy
Wilkens strolling through Watts in a Red, Black and
Green liberation jumpsuit that he had been saving
For just the proper occasion.

Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies, and Hooterville
Junction will no longer be so damned relevant, and
women will not care if Dick finally gets down with
Jane on Search for Tomorrow because Black people
will be in the street looking for a brighter day.
The revolution will not be televised.

There will be no highlights on the eleven o'clock
news and no pictures of hairy armed women
liberationists and Jackie Onassis blowing her nose.
The theme song will not be written by Jim Webb,
Francis Scott Key, nor sung by Glen Campbell, Tom
Jones, Johnny Cash, Englebert Humperdink, or the Rare Earth.
The revolution will not be televised.

The revolution will not be right back after a message
about a white tornado, white lightning, or white people.
You will not have to worry about a dove in your
bedroom, a tiger in your tank, or the giant in your toilet bowl.
The revolution will not go better with Coke.
The revolution will not fight the germs that may cause bad breath.
The revolution will put you in the driver's seat.

The revolution will not be televised, will not be televised,
will not be televised, will not be televised.
The revolution will be no re-run brothers;
The revolution will be live.

They're welcome to protest, but in order to create actual change they need a real message, a real plan, and something more than cute slogans.

It is nice to know that as a hard working employed American I'm part of the elite 1% that is holding these folks down.

That's cool. I know some people who work 60-hr+ weeks with no overtime and are afraid to take vacation out of fear they'll be fired for not working hard enough. I know the free marketeers will disagree but I think they have legit labor grievances that could be expressed at something like this. But go on assuming everyone there/supporting it is worthless and idly complaining about whatever for the fun of it.

"Journalists Funded By ‘Vulture Capitalist’ Paul Singer Campaign To Smear Wall Street Protests"

Quote :
"Journalist Who Admitted To Infiltrating Protests To ‘Mock And Undermine’ The Movement Works For A Singer-Supported Right-Wing Magazine. In a column posted last night, reporter Patrick Howley admitted that he had surreptitiously joined an anti-war spin-off group from the OccupyDC protests that planned to demonstrate at a military drone exhibit at the Smithsonian’s Air and Space museum. Howley wrote that he “infiltrated” the action and sprinted into the police along with a few protesters in order to “mock and undermine” the movement. Singer is a major donor the Spectator, a right-wing magazine known for its role in the “Arkansas Project,” a well-funded effort to invent stories with the goal of eventually impeaching President Clinton.

Journalist Pushing To Discredit Occupy Wall Street Is Funded By Singer’s Think Tank. Josh Barro, a journalist who has attacked the 99 Percent Movement in the National Review and the New York Daily News, draws a salary from the Wriston Fellowship at the Manhattan Institute, a big business advocacy think tank in New York. Barro makes the same tired arguments, that anti-Wall Street protesters are too inarticulate and “extreme” to be taken seriously. Singer is the chairman of the Manhattan Institute, and even oversees the Wriston annual fundraiser.

according to his grammer grammar, he would actually would not take that job. he just had to find an odd number of negatives to make his point.

Bloomberg announced today that the city won't be kicking protestors out of the park they're staying in.

Related: they took over Washington Sq Park this weekend, and a lot more people seem to be talking about this in general watercooler chatter than over the previous few weeks.
