"I feel like most people, especially the ones blasting the protest and protesters, really have no idea what it is about. It isn't an Obama re-election campaign. It isn't a "the rich people should be poor too, let's take the money from them." It isn't a bunch of lazy college kids bitching about something trivial like most protests.

Grayson put it pretty well.

I love how the people against the protest are so quick to turn it into a "they want socialism" or "they don't want to work" or "they're jealous of the accomplishments of others" argument, which is pretty far from reality.

Sure, they may not have a concrete proposal for how to get the nation back on track. They may not have the most organized or concise list of goals. That doesn't mean they aren't frustrated with feeling like they're being ignored by a government that is supposed to represent them."

finally, a reasonable perspective on this topic. thank you.

finally, a reasonable post from pack_bryan. if you would post more like this and less like calling everybody else a retard, tww would be a better place

my answer - i think you have the right to charge whatever you want for it. the reality of modern day capitalism means that more than likely you will only have the resources to pursue such a cure in association with a large company, which is rightfully beholden to its stockholders, some of whom need those profits for their retirement fund, and some of whom are hedge fund manager types who are just accumulating wealth for the purpose of accumulating wealth. that situation seems like a waste of humanity's potential

i personally am fortunate enough to be in the top 1% of wage earners globally. personal wealth - not so much, but I'm still way better off and better positioned for the future than the majority of humanity. i don't want to pay 90% tax rates on all income over $10,000 or anything analogous to what some are asking of the top 1% in America, so I can understand how the top 1% of Americans wouldn't want to have taxes taken from them that will arguably be mis-spent in the effort to improve the standings of the bottom 99%.

i think there are absolutely problems in this country where the wealthy hold excessive power, and it's only getting more extreme - and I think it's quickly contributing to the eventual downfall of America. I'm very concerned about it, but I don't have any great ideas either - like many, I'm too busy just trying to take care of my family.

I do think that whoever they are, the OccupyWallStreet protesters have a right to do what they are doing, and it's deeply disturbing to me how many people in general and on here in particular are so harshly critical of them. especially those in the military - you want people to appreciate you for fighting for our rights overseas? well how about standing up for them here first?

i haven't read the entire thread, but for those who haven't seen it yet, "Inside Job" , to me, was a great precursor to some of the financial crisis/ bank collapse. Perhaps even more so than Wall Street by themselves is the idea that policymakers themselves have a lot of the blood on their hands directly.

More on "Inside Job": http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1645089/

thanks for the response. i want you to know that i'm a reasonable a citizen as you are with the same goals in life. i respect any human being who is not a piece of garbage taking a shit on a police car. what did those cops do? aren't they also just 'trying to care of their' families? better yet, how about those troops you brought up. aren't they just taking care of their little daughters and bringing home some food on the table for their little families and taking a big risk to do so while we are engaged in 3 major theaters of operation against people who openly want to destroy our way of life?

i'm not out to destroy any 1 personal life of these few hundred people around our cities. but they are actually taking their pants off, shitting on cars (see images), openly mocking people at random (see hundreds of videos), making demands against 'wall street' (what is wall street anyways? a couple white guys in business suits that we should hang in a town square?)

this is in conflict to peace and order in a country that currently holds the richest spot in this present earth and human civilization. i never said it was perfect. we can fix it. but we can't suddenly pretend that there is a group of people that need to go on trial without proof to convict them of breaking laws.

if you took 1 step back you would realize that a lot of groups in the world want to do this to the united states. destroy our way of life b/c "no small group of people deserve such absurd wealth"

hate to break it to you people but the whole USA is the 1%. about 5% of the population controlling about 90% of it's wealth. sorry you were born under such conditions.

^ i edited it out for that very reason. i meant to say richest. not "generic #1" i specifically meant wealthy as in monetarily rich

and the statistics are in our GDP and wealth in these very markets you protest.

well krallum sit down on my lap and i'll explain why you live in by far the wealthiest nation on earth that has so much abundance it's almost disgusting. (yes you illegally want a piece of that pie from others too! but in order to make it legal you have to raise tax rates first )

I have never in this thread or any other thread stated that i want anything from anyone else. If anything i'd rather pay more taxes, except that i think the majority of my tax money is misused and there is nothing i could ever do about it

I personally couldn't care less about occupy wall street, but if someone else cares about the distribution of wealth how could i not encourage them to do something about it other than bitching?

actually i'm not gonna reply to that. you're just digging for gold now b/c you know you can't get money out of others wallets without a lot of work, and none of these people are willing to do it. they just want results NOW. just like everybody else in the world. gimme now now money i can't wait or do work for change. it's supposed to be easy.

You misunderstand my position. You have the perfect right to charge whatever you want or whatever the market will pay.

Pay off your loans and pay your taxes that will enable future generations to accomplish what you have accomplished.

Seems legit. I'd hire him at my company.

little innocent quote from eurozone:

Dear Occupy Wall Street,
You may be the 99% of America, but you're the 1% of the world. Keep that in mind. Keep in mind that you have money to buy those nice iPhones you're recording "Police Brutality" on, as you berate the corporations who gave it to you. YOU bought the damn iPhone. You want to stop Apple? Don't buy iPhones. And your student loan debt is your own damn fault. Isn't people getting loans they couldn't afford what got us into this economic mess? The one you're protesting. Get a loan you can afford, and be responsible, anyone's debt is no one's fault but their own. It's called common sense. Learn it, reverb it. Don't hesitate to reiterate.
Sincerely, the 10%. The ones with brains.

I'm surprised the people who are against this movement are giving it so much attention. Sure focusing on the unsavory parts may be an attempt to undermine or discredit it, but sensationalizing it only gets more people to watch.

It's like when people boycott a movie for being too racy with the end result of more people watching to see what all the fuss is about.

I'm surprised they're not trying to ignore it to death instead.

I will admit I was wrong. If you want to change something work 70 hours a week on salary and hope your vote goes to the one dude who will ignore the people who paid for him to win an 'election'. It works for most people so you probably shouldn't fuck with the system.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2047664/Occupy-Wall-Street-Children-1-good-time-protests.html

Overall the article is a good read on how the protests have degraded with the addition of college students. I like this quote:

Quote :
"'Most of the kids are trust-fund babies. They don’t need to be here,' Andre, a 40-year-old activist told the New York Post. 'I’ve seen some making out, having sex. It doesn’t look good.'"

==

Well this won't get anything accomplished:

http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/local/demonstrators-arrested-inside-senate-hart-office-building-101111

Quote :
"WASHINGTON - Several arrests were made inside of the Senate Hart Office Building Tuesday after demonstrators who have spent five days camping out in downtown Washington to protest war and other causes refused to cooperate with police.

About a hundred anti-establishment protestors held a noisy demonstration in the lobby of the Hart Senate office building, Tuesday, around lunchtime.

...

Protestors briefly unfurled a second banner from a balcony. Within minutes, a police official with a bullhorn told the protestors they were violating the law and would be subject to arrest.

Individual officers asked everyone to clear out of the lobby area, including the protestors, reporters, camera crews, and congressional staffers. Nearly all the protestors abided by that order, and only a handful were arrested. "

OMFG POLICE BRUTALITY

==

Quote :
"Occupy L.A. Speaker: “One of the speakers said the solution is nonviolent movement. No, my friend. I’ll give you two examples: French Revolution, and Indian so-called Revolution.

Gandhi, Gandhi today is, with respect to all of you, Gandhi today is a tumor that the ruling class is using constantly to mislead us. French Revolution made fundamental transformation. But it was bloody.

India, the result of Gandhi, is 600 million people living in maximum poverty.

So, ultimately, the bourgeosie won’t go without violent means. Revolution! Yes, revolution that is led by the working class.

Long live revolution! Long live socialism!”
