Ok, so I have a job and I can pay my bills. Am I supposed to be in the 1 percent or the 99 percent group? Just curious.

It depends on the job but I'd say the odds are in favor of the 99%

How posts a picture of Stalin to try and make America look bad?

Stalin killed 7 million people for political choices.

"Occupy protests spread to cities around the world"
http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/15/world/occupy-goes-global/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Quote :
"*The predominantly peaceful protests were inspired by Occupy Wall Street
*Organizers say 951 cities in 82 countries are taking part
*Vandalism and fires erupt at Rome demonstration"

Just saw this as the main front page story for CNN. Kind of amusing that they decide to call it "predominantly peaceful" and represent that with an image of fire.

And here how MSNBC is representing it as their front page main story:

"Day of global Occupy protests gets under way"

Maybe the creator of the image should have used Lenin instead of Stalin, but it's good to see you supporting the banks above your fellow humans.

Fine, then. Leninists. I'd still support not only banks (who are associations of fellow humans) but corporatist politics, if those are my two choices.

pryderi what is a 'corporation'?

it's groups of working and producing human beings. something you will never understand for the entirety of your life more than likely. just because you do not understand us, doesn't mean you have to declare an all out war on us in the streets. luckily your fellow anarchists still make up a less than 1% of the worlds population

^you're an idiot. Look at the history of our nations employment during the 1940s up until the 1970s. Unemployment numbers were lower than they were today and during the 1930s. I swear to god, none of you paid attention in US history during highschool. It's like you absolutely skipped over the New Deal and somehow went straight to Reagonomics

All I'm seeing is a bunch of people pissing and moaning because they don't have a job. I don't see any real solutions to the problem being raised. Try to go to 'Occupy wall Street' and We are the 99' websites, and again, lots of pissing and moaning, but no platform. I get it, you're mad. Roger that. So someone explain to me, and I mean this sincerely, what they want us to do about their situation aside from give them money. Because if I'm gonna be giving up my money via taxes, it ain't gonna be to just turn around and give it to someone else. What's the plan?

^ the funny thing is - most of these people won't vote because they don't want to conform to "the man" and whether or not they like it - the change that they want is going to happen in congress and the white house - and the only way to affect it is by voting.

vicious circle....

(granted not EVERYONE protesting isn't going to vote but I have no doubt that many of them don't)

apparently they've filled times square this evening

The thing is - people agree that there are problems which need to be fixed - which a solution CAN be found to these problems

but walking around a business atmosphere smelling, acting, and overall behaving like a goddamn dirty jobless hippie from 1960 does not work anymore towards achieving the goals they desire

^^right but i'm not clear on whether or not this group specifically is providing any suggested solutions to the problems that they're complaining about?

they can't find jobs? well if you're the person saying that you're not gonna take a job that doesn't pay at least $20 an hour, then the government ain't gonna help your ass.

you take out $150,000 in student loans to get your BA and MA in english lit and you want the government to pay off your student loan debt cause you can't find a job that pays well enough? well then you shouldn't have spent so much on your education

the government can't and shouldn't fix everything for everyone that's asinine

^^^^ i doubt most of them won't vote. I don't perceive a majority of these people to be anarchist hippies.

If i were at the top, i would push for reinstating glass-segall. I would push for amending laws that demand publicly traded companies put profit above everything else. And I would push for a cap on executive compensation at a multiple of average worker pay, similar to what they have in Germany.

Right now, the protesters seem to be measuring success by how many people get arrested, which is completely idiotic.

^ the thing is, i generally support the sentiments of this movement, but I'm not really in debt or anything. It doesn't really make good marketing for people like me to scribble a message on cardboard.

No, which is why I asked what their platform is. So instead of nitpicking at irrelevant fluff, tell me what the plan is, hero. I'm not asking to smugly point out a flaw, I want to know what the proposed solution is.

publicly traded companies' #1 goal is to make money - thats why they're traded, am i wrong? i mean i see what you're saying but making money is what companies do.

and capping executive salaries is all well and good but most of their money doesn't come from wages, it comes from bonus packages and stock options.

consider this dude at BOA

Quote :
"Thomas Montag, head of the firm’s investment bank, saw his SEC-calculated compensation plummet to $831,248 in 2010 from $29.9 million in 2009. Those figures exclude $14.3 million in performance-linked awards granted for last year. "

so he dropped significantly in 2010 for his salary, but he still got $14.3M in awards....

^^ My only point is that you don't care what the platform is or isn't. You already 'know' what it is.

But, to answer your question...I don't know what the solution is. If I did, I probably wouldn't be posting on TWW.

I 'know' what the platform is because you can't spend money unless you either cut spending or increase taxes. And so far I haven't seen a lot of budget cutting. You gonna raise taxes? Fine, as long as someone has a PLAN on how to use it effectively.

EDIT: My mistake. I forgot, we can just keep going into the hole, like we have been doing for the past decade or so.

I can remember this being repealed and when the crisis was happening many economists called for this act's re-reinstatement.

alas it was not to be

99% of the supposed "99%" present are crying because life is not fair and people with enough brains to wipe their ass learned a long time ago that "fair" is an event in Raleigh this week

AND THERE LIES THE PROBLEM (IMO)

Everyone is ok with "raising taxes" as long as it fixes the problem

well godddamn, CEO pay compared to grunt work pay has risen over 4 times the amount comparatively

if you raise taxes, 99% of the time it is on the "grunts"

Effective means returning to a balanced national budget that's in the black, providing a way from people to choose how to invest/save for their future with some semblance of security, and separating corporate and governmental interests.
