Since no one reads the last post

Quote :
"That's a dangerous line of reasoning. It propagates rampant consumerism under the guise of protecting or creating jobs. This comes at the expense of habitat and wildlife all so satiate a sense of entitlement to cheap and abundant disposable goods. "

That's pretty far away from what my statement suggested, but let's pretend that's what I intended.

If those who can afford to buy the latest clothes or gadgets even when they have perfectly functioning ones are creating more business for those companies they're buying from. If they don't purchase these goods does it not reduce the need for said companies to employ or hire as many workers as they would otherwise?

If people have the money and are willing to spend it then that's exactly what they should do. It's the only way to create/sustain employment.

^^ Or rather it's more prudent to acknowledge the perils of reckless consumption and to value what one already has. At least that's the basis for true conservatism. My, how things have changed...

companies that don't hire American workers?

and

all of that is extremely related, America will reach a point where it cannot have both liberty through education, healthcare, etc. and buy products/services made by companies that consist of mostly foreign employees/employers (as we'll be in debt to other countries). So there needs to be a change in attitude and lifestyle.

that being said... bttt? whats the newest thing going on with the protests?

Depends on how you look at it and what you buy/how you buy it. If you're purchasing stuff on the Internet from abroad, then you're still supporting someone's economy (presumably someone poorer than you). If you've got the money and the means to buy American, then you should do so to support our industries/businesses. Even if you go to target to buy something from another country, you're still paying those who work for target for the services they're providing by making that product available to you.

Supposedly, a large mob stormed Wall Street and brawled with cops after the Mayor backed down and let them stay in the park as opposed to leaving for cleaning

^ "Brawled" with cops I think is an overstatement having watched this morning's march on the livestream. What Fox News is reporting as "Violence Breaks Out!" most others are calling scuffles. Even the NY Post's own video doesn't show anything more than that despite using the word melee in their own article.

look at you defending "mild violence"

everybody with a comfortable retirement, including union workers, can thank Wall Street for their retirement income. Throwing cash into a mattress won't accomplish what a proper stock/bond/cash portfolio can

if any of you folks in Raleigh can help the occupiers there, they need (posted on FB):

Quote :
"NEEDS OF THE OCCUPIERS: Pressing needs for Saturday - 5 gallon water coolers (filled w/ ice water), industrial size trash cans/bags, large storage containers, large coolers and sign making materials. Think about a BIG camping trip that doesn't involve tents and bring that stuff. Thanks -Bob PS - Still in need of more MOBILE WIFI for the occupation, anyone have the equipment?"

I'll be joining OccupyPhilly tomorrow for a bit. I can't stay long, I wish I could.

ThePeter obviously you are incapable of reading what I wrote above. I said I am not defending any violence. I just said the media is overdoing it. Either way I feel the march was a mistake. I think the victory in the park was great PR squandered by what happened after. They should have stayed with that until the Times Square action tomorrow.

If you hate banks, shut up, go home, take a shower, change clothes, move your money to a credit union and never worry about a bank again.

Hey, if people want to live their life "freely" and bang their drum and be citizens of the world that is fine with me.....just don't b*tch and complain you don't get a fair shake when the people that did the opposite reap the benefits of their labor. Education, hard work, and yes, luck, contribute to a successful life that usually leads to financial rewards. Being a citizen of the world who bangs a drum usually doesn't lead to financial rewards. Both are choices each and every American can make for themselves. If you choose one or the other it's on you....deal with it.

I wish we had leaders more like Aaron Feuerstein...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Feuerstein

He's the 3rd Generation CEO of Malden Mills, a textile plant in Lawrence, Mass. In '95 the factory burnt to the ground. It personally cost him, $25million, his CEO position and filing chapter 11 in 2001 to keep all 3000 employees on payroll with full benefits for 6 months...

"I have a responsibility to the worker, both blue-collar and white-collar. I have an equal responsibility to the community. It would have been unconscionable to put 3,000 people on the streets and deliver a deathblow to the cities of Lawrence and Methuen. Maybe on paper our company is worthless to Wall Street, but I can tell you it's worth more."

^Trying to understand your analogy. So every single person is a slave and the companies that make the goods we buy are the slaveowners, even though they pay wage to every employee and our own buying of their goods is optional? Slaves were 'slaves' because they were not paid compensation for their labor and had no rights.

life is horrible and everything about it sucks and only the top 1% can help me and i need them to give me stuff.

it's so clear to me now. thanks.

Challenge for anybody with guts. Yell the following phrases and hold up signs amongst protestors:

Bring Back Sharia Law!
The Soviet Union had no Poverty!
Islam is the Light!
Wall Street belongs in Zion!

Extra bonus points:
Use phrases from Mein Kampf, Zweites Buch, or the Turner Diaries, and replace the word "jew" with "rich" or "1st". See how many people you can get to agree with you, film it, and then after you have amassed a crowd reveal that those were the words of Zee Fuhrer himselff.

Watch 99% blindly follow screaming. Yay
