I just listened through miasma again and i'd say its somewhere inbetween the two but definitely closer to nocturnal, the tone of the album especially the guitar sounds exactly like nocturnal. Most noticeable differenceon the album is ryan from arsis' solos being a little more technical than whoever left btbam. I've listened through it like 3 times and i can't even find that song that i thought i hated from 2 pages ago .


I stopped listening to the new megadeth after about the second song of broderick's fucking wankfest. Least tasteful guitarist in megadeth yet.

theyre a thrashy/metallic hardcore band (if youre into stuff like Converge you might enjoy them) from NC. Not sure if you will like their stuff but great guys and a killer live show. Their last album suffered from a vanilla recording job; this one has a lot more balls to it. I don't listen to many bands their style but I have a soft spot for these guys:

And I am loving the new Advent album. It is worlds ahead of their last one. I can't wait to see more of these songs live. Heres to hoping we can get them to play our CD release show again...but I dono if they are going to be free around that time

The pace of this album just fits their style SO much better. Chris picked up the drumming several notches and the recording style captures their live sound a lot better.

Children of Bodom sounds great. A little screamy at times, but along the lines of what I was looking for. Been listening to some of their songs for about an hour now.

Necrophagist is a great band, but a little too far in the direction I wanted to subtlety move. Exactly the idea, just taken past where I want to listen to it.

check out Ensiferum if you have not. Theres a huge power metal influence in that Norwegian folk metal but 9 times out of 10 you're trading d&d for lotr because they think they're all vikings.

^ see I really appreciate what they are doing musically, however it is too folky for my current mood. I love the concept, I really dig it, and in the proper mindset I'd totally listen to this and love every second. Their live shows must be fucking stellar. I just listened to Battle Song and that has more of the moxy I'm on the hunt for.

Unfortunately, this genre is over-saturated with lyrical fantasy lyrics, and while I'm all about the things going on musically, lyrically I wanna go find my robe and wizards hat and roll some d20, ya know? And I don't want that, I want some semi-rhythmic screaming about stuff not related to elves, dragon, quests, magic, etc.

this is the original Ensiferum's guitarist/vocalist. Some of the peices of that are there but the lyrics are mostly about trivial stuff, told in a really epic way. This song is about him having TB lol.
