^^We (Wingmen) actually made some big improvements this season. For the fall we were 1-3-6 for a grand total of 6 points. For the spring we moved all the way to 4-2-4. If we could have avoided a couple of bad breaks and a terrible PK call we could have won both of the games that ended in a draw. Hopefully we can keep it up.

^The same can be said about The Usual Jackals. We had a few close offsides calls go against us and played short handed vs one of the teams below us (only 2 female players), who we lost to.

Time to sign up for a C or D league. Gotta put my money where my mouth is this time. I'm sure that if I actually put some money down, I'll put in the effort to do well.

That's the plan, be the X factor that got yanked from the player pool. Or be the glorified snack guy with the orange slices and capri suns.

^My roster is full right now, but if you don't care what day of the week you play on then make sure to put yourself in every player pool that your age qualifies you for. You might get luck then. Also, put your name in the pool right now since fewer names are in there. Once it gets over 100, it becomes hard to get noticed.

^Some interesting notes from tonights captains meeting.

1) Still no schedules for a few days and TASL lost Thomas Brooks Park this season.

2) They are putting astro turf on 3 more fields at the WRAL Soccer Center. TASL will have the rights to those field after 12 pm on Saturdays until they shut the lights off. None of this will be an issue though for about another season, or two. Once it happens, you can probably expect more games at the WRAL Soccer Center.

3) Garden City Eagles moved up to Men's Open B.

Oh and tonights meeting at the bar was fun. Where were all of you?

^I Won't miss them, but it does sort of bother me that they did better than us. I guess my team will just have to put the epic beat down on Open C this season like we did in the summer and move up.

Oh...and Donna said tonight that some of the Coed D teams could use some players. If anyone is interested in playing Coed D on Monday nights that already isn't then let me know.

^Actually some of the best players on that summer roster aren't playing in the fall, but we did sign some good replacements for them, so it is probably a push.

3-0 Forfeit victory vs Shepherd's House United!

That means I went 3-0-0 this week. How did everyone else do in men's league today?

In addition to being deprived of an all actual game, I'm convinced we would have beat shepherds by at least 5 goals. I can't stand forfeiters, and I truly hope the lost goal fpdifferential opportunity doesn't bite us.

hibernian shat the bed, up 3-0 and then gave up 3 goals in the final 5 minutes to draw our first game of the season... on a brighter note, i did chip the keeper from 45 yards out

Have any of you ever had problems with shin splints? I got some pretty bad ones after a game on Wednesday night and I don't know how to treat them. I got them once in high school but I pretty much just played through them until the season ended.

^You still play for Happy Hour right? I had a late game last Tuesday night and was out there walking around watching the games. I work 20 minutes from the soccer center, so I just watch the early games when I play late. I know someone on The Farce, but after spending a few minurtes at Centex I went to Baker Roofing to watch someone else I know play and meet up with my team.

Does anyone know of a Coed C team that will be needing players in the spring? I don't care if it is Premier, or Championship. I know this is to way early to ask, but I am just trying to get my name out there for the spring. I am one of the players that will probably not be returing to the team I am currently on, but I do like Tuesday league at the soccer center. I just want to switch teams, so I can actually have fun instead of listening to everyone get blamed and criticized by a clueless captain. Anyway, feel free to put me on your waiting list, or tell your captain about me.

So, how is everyone doing this season? My men's team is currently in 3rd place. My coed teams on the other hand are struggling a little bit.

The Wingmen are at 1-1-1 right now. We wouldn't have that loss if I didn't have one of the worst games I've ever played to start the season. I'm personally not holding up well though. I keep tweaking my right knee. I wasn't sad to see our game rescheduled due to field conditions this week. It gave me some extra time to heal up.

TWW Derby Alert: Sporting Raleigh 0 Mannschaft 0

That is 3 ties in a row vs Mannschaft (Flying Dog).

We also beat LFC (Newcastle) on Saturday 4-3 at Davis Drive 3 where we got our last win vs them (4-3) in the Spring of 2010.

Overall it wasn't a bad weekend considering we had a skeleton crew roster. A lot of our best players were either out, or got injured in one of the games. We're still in 3rd. Now on to the next TWW Derby vs FC Rubbish! They were already talking smack to me tonight!

late as hell but hopefully this is helpful if you've been getting them still

I never had them until a few years ago, after i bought a new pair of cleats. After trying a bunch of things, I finally figured out that it was a combo of the cleats being a bit on the small side, and that i was tying them way too tight.

I know that runs counter-intuitive to everything we're taught as young players (get boots that are a half size too small, tie them as tight as you can, etc), but it mad an immediate improvement in how frequently I get shin splints. Something else I started doing to make sure i can't tie my boots too tight is wearing an extra pair of ankle-high socks over my long soccer socks.

Thanks for the feedback. I had actually gotten some new boots so that was probably it. It cleared up on its own after a week or so of no activity but I'll make sure to not tie the laces too tight.
